Beckett, Esposito and Ryan are more than ready to arrest him since they're all unhappy that they haven't heard from him all summer. When he's finally cleared by NYPD, Castle is reluctant to admit that he didn't want to return to find Kate cozying up to Tom Demming but he soon finds out the two have broken up. Unfortunately, Castle and Gina are still very much together. As Castle and Beckett work together once again, this time they both have significant others when Kate begins dating Dr. Josh Davidson, or as Castle likes to call him "Dr. Motorcycle Boy" But when Kate's mother's murder case comes back to haunt her once again, she gets the shock of her life when it's revealed that Captain Roy Montgomery was more involved than she ever expected. As Kate give a eulogy at a funeral, it's Castle tries to jump in front of a snipers bullet to save her, unfortunately he's seconds too late and declares his love for his favorite dectective as she lays bleeding on the ground.
