It's Kate Beckett's first day as Captain in Castle Season 8 Episode 1, "XY", which is part one of the two part season premiere. Rick tries to calm her first day jitters with a special present. It's a giant cupcake with a sparkle but inside is a box with a beautiful bracelet. The word, "Always" is inscribed inside. Beckett wears it as she leaves the loft. Later on, Esposito and Ryan call Castle in when they work a mass murder at a closed movie theater. When they explore the balcony, they stumble over a pool of blood in which Castle finds Kate's bracelent, the work Always starring up at him covered in her blood. No one knows where Beckett is. They assume she's been abducted and try to track her down. They get the unlikely assistance of Alexis who is working from Castle's P.I. office and Hayley, a private investigator working her own case who ends up in the middle of this murder and the investigation into Beckett's disappearance but has Kate been kidnapped or has she been keeping her own secrets?
