Recap

A hostage situation develops in Mexico, so Annie, Joan, and Ben Mercer head down as a news crew to handle it.  They pull it off until Annie antagonizes the terrorist leader and puts the three of them in with the hostages.  Ben blows out the window with a bomb, so he and Annie stop the terrorist leader from escaping.

Upon returning from Mexico Ben asks Annie to go away with him for a week on the beach.  She declines so that she can return to her new boyfriend, Dr. Weiss.

for me,it was piper. i loved her portrayal of annie last season. she did it camp, fun, intelligently. i learned to read her body language. (which scares me about tonight)she's terrific at conveying feelings without speaking.
example:when ben pulls out the bracelet, amazing. that's why she won all the praise & nominations. but this year, the writers are trying to make her jason bournette. she's not. she was a NEW action hero(ine) annie. i'm so disappointed. but,my #2 girl's back tonight, liza. hope your guy,ben doesn't tweep her for sleazy arthur and his complicitous wife.

Writers never developed Ben's character!! You are so right kcg! I don't think they thought he was going to be such a big deal as he turned out to be in Season 1, to the fans that is! Something is missing this season, is it because of Ben not being around at all or even being mentioned. He is intertwined with everyone's life but meanwhile they are not exploring that part of it!!!! Should be interesting to see how they handle this week.

oh! i read those posts all the time. great group of people. the writers never developed ben. so i have no opinion. too bad 'cause my(spike tv) guy friends know eion bailey's work(i don't) and thought he'd do a fantastic job morphing into bourne/bond/vin diesel type of character. isn't that what henry said:extraordinary? they got bored watching him play beach party ken(as one said) and watch some other (violent) show. i loved this show last year so much. piper played it buffy-like ...i felt i could really relate to annie. also loved liza.what balls! but the show has changed.so many inconsistencies. its like the writers are newbies who never have seen fantastic season one. and my annie warped into a person i really don't like. oh well. this show had so much potential...kcg

no problem. hey! who underlined married/marriage in my post? i didn't. what's up with that?

To kcg,
I agree completely; see some of the 'Where's Ben?' posts on the CA message board to see how a lot of us feel about the writers ignoring him so far this season. He's probably aware that Annie knows the CIA took him out of Walter Reed, but he's sensitive to the fact that he hasn't gotten in touch with her. (Again, writers, why not?) He may have said something to piss her off; we'll learn more tomorrow. During the filming of this episode, Bailey commented that Mercer is a 'one woman man', so I doubt that his comment involved marriage.

Sorry everyone about the repetitive posts! Each time I submitted a comment, it never showed up, even after leaving and returning to this site; I kept trying. I didn't remember it taking so long for the comments to appear. My Bad! Sorry!

but annie knows who was behind his leaving this time. went right to joan's house. annie even asked jai "what are they going to do him?" knowing he'd be punished. i just sense he said something shocking and marriage came to mind. piper's face looked more than p/o'd. some viewers really care deeply about this character(not me 'cause i'm still on the fence about this guy) i just hope that the writers at least show some kind of compassion.
unfortunately, shooting him, waiting 9 months to see if he lives,he does, leaves due to arthur,no mention of him(? phasing him out),7 episodes later he's back, sensitivity doesn't seem to be their strong point. more like meanness. this is supposed to be light entertainment, not a psychological stress test.

He hasn't said anything; he's referring to the fact that 'this' is the first time she's seen or heard from him since he disappeared from Walter Reed without saying goodbye. The last time he saw her after leaving without saying goodbye (in season 1) she was hurt and angry; he expected her reaction to be the same. But this time she is cool and calm. I think she says "Then raise your expectations." He's unaware that she has another man in her life - the ER Dr. - (he's also in the episode) obviously giving her the confidence to put Mercer down.
