Emily Owens finds out that life in a hospital isn't very different from life in high school on the premiere of Emily Owens, M.D. On the first day of her residency, Emily finds that she'll be working alongside both her crush, Will Collins, and her arch-nemesis, Cassandra Kopelson.

Emily treats a 12 year old girl who convinces her to tell Will that she likes him and Emily assists on her first surgery despite being told by Dr. Gina Bindari that it will be years before she will see the inside of an OR which sets Emily apart from the other surgical residents.
