The Mosaic Collective: Episode Stills from Mark Benford's Flash Forward

What did Mark Benford see?

As the central character on this week's series premiere of FlashForward, FBI agent Mark Benford has been placed in charge of determining what the heck is going on around the world.

Why did everyone black out at the same time, see a vision of themselves on April 29, 2010 and then wake up with no idea what happened?

Benford has taken the lead on the case due to the images in his flash forward: he was alone in his office (drinking, but don't mention that to his wife), trying to piece together clues that will solve this global riddle. Below, we've compiled episode still from Mark's vision.

Click on each to get a larger look at Benford's role in what will come to be known as The Mosaic Collective...

FlashForward Clue: What Happens on April 29, 2010?

On the series premiere of FlashForward, everyone on the planet saw visions of him/herself in the future.

These flash forwards weren't random, either. They all took place at the same time, on the same date: April 29, 2010.

While producers Marc Guggenheim and David Goyer don't reveal any major spoilers regarding that day in the video below, they do emphasize its importance.

Not coincidentally, a new episode of FlashForward will air on that Thursday night.

A FlashForward Clue

Did you watch the opening episode? Did you like it?

FlashForward Recap: "No More Good Days"

What did you see?

That's the question that was frequently asked on this week's series premiere of FlashForward, and it's one we're likely to hear often over the next few weeks.

Following the opening hour of this wildly anticipated new drama, though, we have a different question for readers: Was it worth the hype?

Did the first episode live up to ABC's billing? Will it be the next Lost? Will you tune in next week?

Our answer, across the board, is: yes, definitely. We were glued to our television screens during the hour. Browse through our detailed recap of "No More Good Days" and chime in with your thoughts on the show.

Pure Chaos

Below, we've listed a few of the most revealing FlashForward quotes from the episode:

Aaron: Even if this future stuff is real, maybe it's a blessing in disguise... Ghost of Christmas future crap. | permalink
Mark: I was drinking again. The anxiety, the shame, it was all back. | permalink
Demetri: What if I didn't see anything because six months from now I'm gonna be dead? | permalink
Bryce: I saw a glimpse of my future and everything's changed for me now. | permalink

FlashForward Interview: Sonya Walger

Following weeks of hype and buzz over FlashForward spoilers, the most anticipated drama of the new season premieres tonight.

ABC is banking a lot on FlashForward, inviting comparisons to Lost and airing the show on TV's most competitive time slot (against Fringe, Vampire Diaries and Bones).

So far, the reviews have been positive. And we're big fans of Sonya Walger from her role as Penny on Lost. In a new interview, the actress previews her character and discusses the show in general:

On Olivia Benfrod: "She's the main woman in the show. She's a trauma surgeon in her own right so she's working at the hospital and dealing with many of the casualties of the event and therefore many of the stories. She had her own flash forward which was very troubling: she sees the end of her marriage.

She sees herself with another man; a man she's never met before and she confides that in her husband. She thinks it will help by revealing that information to him, but it ends up making them both feel very unsettled. They have a child, little Charlie, who has also had a flash forward even though she's only seven."

On FlashForward vs. Lost: "I think they're only valid in that they're both big ensemble shows with one big concept or premise. But after that, they part ways really quite rapidly. FlashForward is definitely not a sci-fi show. It doesn't have the mythology of Lost. We have one major event that happens that you are asked to buy into. After that, you're dealing with very human ripple effects - how people deal with it and how they come to terms with it.

There are six-and-a-half billion people that have blacked out, so that's potentially six-and-a-half billion stories to tell! Believe me, we're not telling all of them. But we're about to start [filming] episode eight and I'm so surprised by how far the ripple has been felt."

Dominic Monaghan Dishes on "Smart, Intelligent" FlashForward Character

Avid TV watchers are aware of two things:

  1. FlashForward is the premiere to watch this month;
  2. Dominic Monaghan stars on the series as Simon.

In a new interview, the former Lost star opens up a bit more about his character:

"I play a guy called Simon who is linked through story lines with [the character of] Lloyd. He's a very smart, intelligent scientist, and we begin the relationship with him under the impression that he knows more than he is giving away."

Fans won't see Monaghan until episode two, however. The actor said:

"Simon, is kind of in the wings a little bit, kind of waiting, kind of a reveal. He'll gradually be trickled in as the show picks up some steam."

FlashForward Series Premiere Clips: A Car Crash and A Conversation

We're less than one week away from the premiere of FlashForward.

Few shows in recent memory - prior to even airing - have received such hype and buzz as this ABC drama, as critics are already comparing it to Lost and potential viewers are already searching online for Easter Eggs.

Below, we've posted a pair of clips from the September 24 debut episode.

The first is actually reminiscent of Lost's opening scene; except, instead of one major plane crash, Mark Benford (Jospeh Fiennes) must deal with an assortment of car crashes, all of which take place when the world blacks out...

FlashForward Easter Egg Hunt: Oceanic Airlines Ad Found!

This is pretty cool.

In the background of the FlashForward image below, there's an ad for Oceanic Airlines. As any Lost fan can tell you, this is the company that crashed the survivors on their island on that ABC hit.

Does this mean there will some sort of cross promotion between FlashForward and Lost? Tune in to the September 24 premiere of the former and find out.

FlashForward Easter Egg

FlashForward has two other connections to its fellow ABC drama: Sonya Walger and Dominic Monaghan - Penny and Charlie, respectively, on Lost - play series regulars.

FlashForward Promo Pics: Joseph Fiennes, Sonya Walger, Dominic Monaghan

A little more than a week prior to the series premiere of FlashForward, ABC has released a handful of promotional photos of the stars from this new drama.

While spoilers abound on the Web and fans set their DVR to record the pilot episode of the show, take a look at the pictures below.

They feature Joseph Fiennes, Sonya Walger and Dominic Monaghan; all of whom star on FlashForward in the roles of Mark, Olivia and Simon, respectively.

As for Monaghan, this video depicts his first appearance on the series, as he mysteriously enters a scene and introduces himself to Fiennes' Mark Benford.

John Cho Speaks on Connection to FlashForward Character

Best known for his role in the Harold & Kumar movies, it's safe to say that John Cho isn't taken too seriously as an actor.

But that's about to change, as he plays an integral role on the most anticipated drama of the fall: Cho will star as FBI agent Demetri Noh on FlashForward.

In a recent interview, the rising star spoke on the appeal of this character. He said:

"I wasn't willing to go back to television as I had a couple of shows that went bust on me, and I wasn't keen on testing those waters again. But this script is very compelling and I connected with Demetri's circumstances."

What do those circumstances include?

Noh is engaged to a lawyer named Zoey, played by Gabrielle Union. In his vision of the future (mini spoiler alert!) Demetri sees... nothing. Does this mean he doesn't survive the next six months? No one knows.

"Unlike other television shows where the characters stay the same week after week, this is a little different as we don't know where the characters are going," Cho said.  "'We are finding our way around this, but it helped that we are shooting two episodes simultaneously."

FlashForward premieres on Thursday, September 24, immediately prior to the season debut of Grey's Anatomy.

Gabrielle Union: Character FlashForward to Be "Life Affirming"

Gabrielle Union has joined the cast of FlashForward.

The the wildly-anticipated ABC hit, which premieres on September 24, the actress will play Zoey, Demetri Noh's fiancee and a criminal defense attorney.

Gabrielle Union Picture

In a recent interview, Union gave viewers a hint of what's ahead. She didn't reveal any major spoilers, but she does confirm that Zoey will flash forward like everyone else.

On her future vision: I would say it's life-affirming. Take that as you may. I'm not a great liar, so they just don't tell me anything. I was getting information, literally seconds before I was filming.

On April 29, 2010, the date to which everyone flashes forward: We don't know what happens. Has this ever happened before? We're going to explore what caused it. Could it happen again? Did it happen before and we missed it? We don't know how this will all unfold.

In an earlier interview, fellow star Joseph Fiennes added that characters will likely flash forward on more than one occasion, following the visions seen in the pilot episode. We can't wait.
