Friday Night Lights Recap: "Tami Knows Best"

Tami Taylor does indeed know best on Friday Night Lights.

You can imagine, then, how she reacts when protege Tyra (Adrianne Palicki, pictured) acts out in typical Tyra fashion. Or when Buddy Garrity clashes with her yet again.

Meanwhile, Lyla and Tim continue their odd relationship, while Matt Saracen tries to legally emancipate himself and encounters a blast from the past.

Friday Night Lights Episode Recap is Live

Tyra drew the ire of Tami.

So did Buddy, for different reasons.

Eric tells Smash, whose confidence is low, to suck it up. Matt tries to become legally free of his parents (it's complicated), while Tim and Lyla continue their complicated relationship as his brother is "humping" Tyra's sister. Seriously.

All that and more took place on another terrific episode of Friday Night Lights. This is the best show. Follow the link for a full episode recap.

How's Friday Night Lights Doing on DirecTV?

With Friday Night Lights (new episode tonight at 9 p.m.) is airing on satellite TV channel, its definition of success has changed: Ratings for the Season 3 premiere were way down, but considering the much smaller potential audience, not so bad.

Reevaluating Friday Night Lights Ratings

Now that Friday Night Lights is airing on a satellite television channel, it is time to re-evaluate its definition of commercial success.

After two seasons on NBC, the critically acclaimed drama about a small Texas town and its football team made its debut Wednesday on DirecTV.

It will run on DirecTV exclusively for four months before starting its third season on NBC in February. The arrangement defrays production costs.

Coach Taylor in Action

In its first two seasons, Friday Night Lights averaged 6.2 million viewers on NBC, a relatively low rating for a major network broadcast.

Wednesday’s DirecTV debut reached a much smaller audience – 400,000 – but then again, the satellite universe is also much smaller.

DirecTV counts 17.1 million subscribers. NBC reaches 100 million homes.

Friday Night Lights Spoilers: Taylor Kitsch Shirtless & More

"They write a shirtless scene for me in every episode," Friday Night Lights' resident bad boy Taylor Kitsch (Tim Riggins) tells E! Online.

"I fight them on every episode. Sometimes I win. Sometimes they win."

If that doesn't make you want to watch Friday Night Lights, we don't know what will. But these additional spoilers should also boost the cause:

Tim and Lyla (Minka Kelly) are totally together (maybe you noticed), and Taylor is bringing the sexy back. But is there any long-term hope? "Sure, why not?" Taylor Kitsch said. "If she goes from Jesus to him, she must be into him."

Taylor Kitsch Shirtless

Another thing you probably noticed is that D.W. Moffett joined the cast as Joe McCoy, the pushy, aggressive father of freshman QB phenom J.D. (Jeremy Sumpter), who is billed as the next Jason Street (Scott Porter).

And that does not bode well for the on-field future of Matt Saracen (Zach Gilford). But he's not worried. Gilford tells E! about his competition, "Everyone thinks [J.D.'s] really good, but come on, he's no Matt Saracen."
