Recap

After arriving to work amidst a strike by the nurses (who demand better wages and hours) at Seattle Grace, Meredith finds an elderly patient short of breath and is able to revive her. However, a trio of the patient's effervescent friends explain to Meredith that the patient asked not to be given treatment. She wished not to be revived under such circumstances, so that she may die in peace. That said, the hospital must wait until the patient's daughter (who has power of attorney) to arrive, so that she can sign the paperwork that empowers the hospital to cease treatment.

Izzie, meanwhile, gives us a shocking glimpse into her past when treating a pregnant teenager. Not only is the teen from the same small town as Izzie, but Dr. Model reveals that she also became pregnant as a teen. Izzie gave her daughter up for adoption and encourages the patient to do the same, upsetting the patient's mother.

With Dr. Bailey on maternity leave, Cristina grows irritated with the perky new resident, Sydney. When Sydney attempts a risky procedure to save a woman's infected leg from amputation. Cristina asks Dr. Burke to intervene, which he does -- later admitting he crossed the line because of their relationship. Later in the episode, Meredith finds out that Dr. Webber has been visiting her mother and is upset. Following the death of her patient, Meredith decides that she doesn't want her mother to die alone and encourages Richard continue his visits. The romantic nature of Richard's past relationship with Dr. Ellis Grey is not overtly stated, but strongly alluded to.

Grey's Anatomy Season 2 Episode 15 Quotes

[narrating] "In general, lines are there for a reason. For security, for clarity. If you choose to cross the line, you pretty much do so at your own risk. So why is it that the bigger the line, the greater the temptation to cross it? We cant help ourselves. When we see a line we want to cross it. Maybe it’s the thrill of the unfamiliar, a sort of personal dare. The only problem is once that you’ve crossed, it’s almost impossible to go back. But, if you do manage to make it back across the line, you find safety in numbers."

MEREDITH

GEORGE: "What happened today?"
IZZIE: "Nothing."
MEREDITH: "Nothing."
GEORGE: "Okay then."
IZZIE: "We don’t know everything about each other, George."
MEREDITH: "Yeah."
GEORGE: [pause] "True. Anybody wanna have sex?"
