Bohannon asks Ruth to stay.

Bohannon recruits Ferguson to accompany him to Cheyenne to meet up with Durant. They take along Ezra.

Along the way, a group of masked riders attacks. A shootout occurs in Cheyenne with the riders looking for Bohannon.

Bohannon gives himself up to save Ezra. The riders are led by the Mormon father from the premiere seeking a life for the death of his hanged son. They take Bohannon to the Mormon fort.

With General Grant's deadline looming, Ferguson takes over to build the railroad in that time.
