When Ted goes to see a new movie called The Wedding Bride he realizes that it is based on his relationship with Stella, who left him at the altar in "Shelter Island."
The film is a hilariously bastardized, inaccurate version of Ted's life with Stella, starring Chris Kattan as Jed Mosly, Jason Lewis as Tony and Malin Akerman as Stella.
The point of all this is that everyone has baggage, only Ted's is playing out in a romantic comedy that Stella's husband somehow wrote, and is somehow popular.
The gang debates the merits of each other's respective skeletons and Ted finally decides to make a go of it with Royce after confessing that the film is all about him.
Turns out Royce has been left at the altar three times herself ... and is considerably more messed up than Ted. Ah, dating in your 30s. It's not what it's cracked up to be.
Ted: That guy's a dad!

Maybe they could use Barney's singing talent to break the monotony.

this episode was disappointing, we have been waiting for a year for the wedding bride and all we get is a back up story about baggage? i expected them to be a little more meticulous about the movie. no stella guest starring stunt? i thought ted would at least be invited to the movie premiere. what were the writers thinking? really disappointing. let's hope the finale and next season get back to season 2's heights
