Barney must choose sides in an argument between Robin and his family when things heat up in a poker game. Lily gets upset when Ted mentions the three wedding gifts he got Barney and Robin. We learn that Marshall and Lily have held a grudge against Ted since their wedding because they don't think he ever got them a wedding gift. Ted did get them a gift, but never got a thank-you note from either of them and has since been annoyed himself. Robin wants Barney to have her back. To show her how much he does, he tells James and his mother, things will never be the same between them and that it was Robin's idea. The episode ends with Robin and Loretta in a stare down.
