Stephen Lang Cast as Mary's Father on In Plain Sight

The future of Terra Nova may still be undecided, but one of that drama's stars has made up his mind: He's headed to USA.

Stephen Lang has signed on to play Mary's estranged father on the final season of In Plain Sight, TV Guide Magazine reports, a character who has been mentioned many times yet never actually appeared... mainly because he's a career criminal who has spent more of his adult life on the run.

Lang will guest star on three In Plain Sight episodes and force his abandoned daughter to confront a few major life decisions before this fun series bids farewell.

Mädchen Amick to Guest Star on In Plain Sight

Madchen Amick will play a role on the final season of In Plain Sight.

As first reported by Entertainment Weekly, the former Twin Peaks star - who has appeared more recently on Damages, Gossip Girl, CSI: NY and White Collar - will portray associate director Lisa Ruffino, the second in command at WITSEC, when this USA hit returns in March.

Look for her to guest star on the second episode of the season.

USA Announces Return Dates for In Plain Sight, Fairly Legal

One series preparing to say goodbye, and another preparing for a major change, will anchor a new night of programming for USA this spring.

The network announced in a press release today that In Plain Sight will kick off its fifth and final season on Friday, March 16. It will be preceded by season two of Fairly Legal.

Among the questions USA says In Plain Sight will answer during its final 13-episode run: Can Mary balance motherhood with a demanding profession or will she put her baby up for adoption? Will Marshall finally be truthful about his feelings for Mary? What will come of Brandi and Peter? Where is Mary's father?

Fairly Legal, meanwhile, narrowly avoided cancellation after an up-and-down opening season.

Look for Australian actor Ryan Johnson to join the cast this year in the role of an ambulance-chasing lawyer who clashes with Sarah Shahi's Kate, while also serving as her new love interest.

In Plain Sight to Conclude After Season 5

Talk about your good news/bad news scenario:

USA Network has both renewed and canceled In Plain Sight simultaneously: the show has been picked up for a fifth season, and then call it quits.

“We’ve built a contract with the audience and want to give them a sense of closure,” USA Network Co-President Jeff Wachtel told Variety, the first outlet to report the news.

Earlier today, USA made another decision regarding next summer: it renewed Suits for a second season.

In Plain Sight Season Finale Review: The Ones You Protect

Everything blew up on the season finale of In Plain Sight. Whether the explosion was physical or emotional, in "Something Borrowed, Something Blew Up," nothing was safe.

Oh, poor Brandi. She was suffocating, and not just in the dress. The dress was perfect. The wedding was perfect. Problem was that Brandi's not perfect and she knew it. Brandi needed her sister but Mary had bigger issues.

Like getting shot at while eight months pregnant. But let's rewind a bit...

Mark was sleeping on Mary's couch and looking pretty darn cozy. He even took over wedding planning duties. How many guys would be willing to do that? Mary might want to keep her baby daddy around.

I loved Ronnie and didn't it figure that he'd find $20 in a bullet proof vest? He got under everybody's skin, including Marshall's and you don't get to see that too often. Between that and Delia's uber-perkiness, Marshall was delightfully flustered.

Oh, Marshall. It took one crucial moment for his true feelings to show through. Bullets flew and he threw himself on top of Mary. Was anyone else squealing in glee at that moment?

Yes, Mary is Marshall's partner. Yes, she's pregnant. And, yes, Abigail knew in that moment that she came in second, no matter how Marshall tried to justify it. That's a realization she won't soon forget.

The lockdown and firefight in the courthouse had the perfect intensity. That look Marshall gave Mary when he sent her away... he was as serious as I'd ever seen him. He wasn't about to have eight month pregnant Mary in harms way if he could help it. But did he or anyone else really expect Mary to sneak out the back? Not likely.

Unfortunately, by the time the bullets stopped flying and Mary flew back to stand by Brandi's side, it was too late. Brandi's meltdown was complete. When Jinx reminded her of where she came from, I knew that was the nail in Brandi's proverbial coffin. The self doubt took her under.

And Mary understood. For as often as Mary has believed the worst in her sister, it was nice to see her have her back when she knew no one else would. Their relationship had truly come full circle.

If they had to leave us with a cliffhanger, I'm thrilled that it was Marshall there with Mary when she went into premature labor. If nothing else, Mary needed someone she could trust. And he was the one Mary called for.

You protect the people you care about the most. Oh, I can't wait for season five. Next summer can't come fast enough.

Mary McCormack on In Plain Sight Season Finale: When Nature Calls...

I've seen the In Plain Sight season finale, my review will be live the instant this episode concludes on Sunday and I can assure fans: you don't want to miss it. Mary McCormack agrees.

"I loved it. It's so great," the actress said on a conference call yesterday, adding of the story's theme: "It's hard to escape your nature."

With Sunday night's cliffhanger coming up fast, McCormack and co-star Fred Weller took the time to dish about the ups, downs, and revelations of season four. Has Mary learned any lessons?

"She'll use birth control from now on," McCormack laughed, subsequently getting serious and noting: "Marshall is an even better friend than she thought."

What does the star think about her alter ego's choices for her baby? Will she keep it? Give it up for adoption? McCormack is "excited either way," offering a possible tease with: "The thought of her raising a child sounds fun."

Both actors, meanwhile, agreed that their characters are aware where the other stands. ("I don't think Marshall is in denial of his true feelings for Mary at all," Weller said.)

So, why haven't they gotten together? "Mary Shannon is able to compartmentalize in an unhealthy way. She's able to just push it away," McCormack said.

Weller is confident this won't always be the case, though: "Marshall and Mary should and will hook up at some point, but it's a little like the escape from Gilligan's Island. What comes next is going to be tricky."

On "Something Borrowed, Something Blew Up," Mary will get in trouble with Brandi when work interferes with the latter's wedding. As for the former's pregnancy? How will it be resolved? We'll have to tune in and find out.

In Plain Sight Review: "A Womb With A View"

How could an episode be so heart warming and horrifying all at once? That was my reaction to "A Womb With A View."

Grace was going to sell her baby to the highest bidder. Granted, that bidder was the child's biological father but he's a mobster who was more than willing to kill Grace and most likely leave pieces of her body all over the Southwest.

But she wasn't just selling her child, she was mortgaging him off for an 18-year term. That's just cold, and mercenary, and as Marshall put it :

I couldn't agree more.

My one question: why the rush? Kidnapping the baby from the hospital was the first thing that gave them away and it didn't have to happen. She could have waited to be discharged, gone home and proceeded with the same plan a few days later. It just seemed to me that that would have been easier and sent up less red flags.

Once we turned away from the dark side, this episode had a lot of great moments. First, Mary's reference to fembots made me a little giddy. I was a huge fan of The Bionic Woman as a child and the fembot episodes were my favorites. Don't judge.

Then, Mary made me so happy when she called out Mark for using the wrong song in his attempted Say Anything scene. Any child of the late 1980s knows that is an iconic moment in film and a sin to get wrong.

Although I loved Mark's explanation. Who still has a boom box? And where on earth can you find a cassette tape?

My love of In Plain Sight's snark factor was long forgotten when I witness the best Marshall and Mary interaction of the season.

I have to admit, Marshall was creeping me out a bit with his intimate knowledge of pregnancy issues, but he totally redeemed himself. With the most sincere expression, he explained his feelings to Mary:

Marshall: Look, whatever you're going to do I have total faith that it will be the right thing for you and everyone but it's hard for me to stand here and go on about being here for Grace no matter what without making it clear that the same thing goes for you, times ten. | permalink

How could you not fall in love with him in that moment? It highlighted all that's right about their goofy, strange, wonderful relationship.

I'm thrilled that Mark made an appearance because now Mary can make a decision based on facts and not on imagining the worst.

With the season finale a week away, do you think Mary changes her mind and keeps the baby? And will the little bundle of joy, full of genetically induced sarcastic wit, make an appearance before it's over?

In Plain Sight Review: Moving On & Moving In

"Provo-cation" threw me for a loop in ways I didn't see coming.

First, Mary gave up her spirit guide?!? I'm ridiculously disappointed by that. I'm sure Marshall and Abigail will take good care of Oscar, but I liked the idea of Mary and her canine sidekick.

Besides, I thought Oscar's goofy, slobbery face looked far happier when he was hanging out at the Shannon residence.

Then, Marshall and Abigail decided to move in together. They've got the dog. They're getting the house. What's next? Can the 2.3 kids be far behind? I like Abigail, but this relationship is moving along faster than I expected and I'm not sure I like it.

I seem to be torn between wanting to see Marshall happy and this irrational desire to see him with Mary, even though the left side of my brain tells me they probably wouldn't work. What can I say? Apparently the heart wants what the heart wants - and mine doesn't seem to want Marshall with Abigail.

The PTSD story was really gripping, although I thought John could have broken through that bathroom door long before Marshall and Abigail arrived.

I suppose I'll give the writers creative license on that one because I'm not sure I want to know what he would have done once the door was down.

The near suicide at the funeral was such a heart wrenching scene and really well played by Joel Gretsch. That man's eyes were so expressive it was hard not to get sucked in.

I also liked that Marshall made Mary stay in the car and, for once, she didn't argue. Perhaps the realities of her pregnancy were starting to sink in.

Major Provo and Mary had some nice chemistry and, although this was a one episode guest spot, I'd love to see him back for more.

Overall, the hour was a little light on humor, but I loved when Mary and Marshall were debating new WITSEC tag lines such as...

Marshall: It's better than Fallujah. That's our new bumper sticker right?

I'm glad In Plain Sight gave us a break from the adoption drama this week via a strong WITSEC-based story. However, with only two episodes left this season, Mary's baby daddy can't be far behind. There's a monkey wrench I won't want to miss.
