Amy Ryan Joins Cast of In Treatment

Especially after she was teased on the season finale, fans of The Office are holding out hope that Amy Ryan might return to this sitcom in the role of Michael's true love, Holly.

We can't offer any update on that casting news, but we can confirm that Ryan will at least be seen in an office this year: the Oscar-nominated actress is coming on board HBO's In Treatment.

Ryan is taking over for Dianne Wiest as the therapist for Gabriel Byrne's Paul on season three of this drama. She joins Debra Winger as a newcomer to the series, whose premiere date has not yet been announced.

Ryan had her big break on HBO, playing a cop on season two of The Wire.

Debra Winger to Star on In Treatment

Following a Peabody Award win last year, In Treatment will return to HBO later this year - and its landed a major name to sit across from Gabriel Byrne's psychotherapist in the fall.

Debra Winger has signed a deal to become a regular on the HBO drama. She'll portray a formerly big actress in an anxiety crisis about her career, as she seeks out Paul for assistance.

Winger has been nominated for three Oscars.

Irrfan Khan and Dane DeHaan will also appear on season three, whose premiere date has not yet been announced by HBO.

Good news, In Treatment viewers: the HBO drama is returning for a third season.

Production on the Emmy-winning hit will begin in New York in early 2010. It will air new episodes later that year. Said Michael Lombardo President of Programming Group and West Coast Operations for the network:

"In Treatment is synonymous with inspired writing and brilliant acting. This is the kind of show that could only flourish on HBO, and we’re proud to bring it back.”

Star Gabriel Byrne has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series both years the show has been in existence.

Gabriel Byrne Dishes on In Treatment, Season Two

In Treatment premieres its second season this Sunday.

Instead of airing on five consecutive nights, the critically-beloved drama will air two episodes on Sunday evening, following by three Monday evening.

This isn't the only change fans will see. As star Gabriel Byrne talks about in an interview with The Chicago Tribune, season two depicts Dr. Paul Weston in a new office, in a new city, surrounded by new patients...

Can you characterize the storyline, or journey, for Paul this season?
He's dealing with the after-effects of separation, both from his wife and his children, and from the city where he lived and worked. He's definitely confronting himself.

And I was kind of interested in that notion of how men are presented in terms of character -- what the definition of masculinity and what a man is. I was interested in exploring it, because I don't believe that men are meant to be strong, silent types who know exactly what to do in every situation. The role of men has changed hugely in the last 10 years. It's changing by the week.

You ask a man who was employed four months ago, who thought the world was a predictable place, how he feels now about himself. Because we all to a greater or lesser extent, find ourselves defined by the work that we do and the relationships that we're in. Take away the work and the relationships and who is actually there?

So he has to begin again in another city, with a completely new list of clients and he also has to redefine himself as a man, outside his marriage.

That episode with you and [guest star] Glynn Turman was so intense last season. And now that they've brought back that character [of Alex's father] -- is that going to be resolved at the end of the season, or well before that?
It doesn't resolve itself until the end. There's unfinished business. I like that idea. There are things he still has to deal with that cause him real pain. One of them is, he sent a guy [a patient named Alex] to die. He feels morally responsible for his death and the father blames him for that. The father cannot believe the son killed himself.

The father is saying, "You are the one who gave him permission to go back -- if it wasn't for you, he wouldn't be dead." And the father has recourse to law. Now he has to go to court to defend an ethical and moral situation.

In Treatment Premiere Date Announced

The second season of In Treatment premieres in just a few weeks.

HBO has announced that new episodes of the Gabriel Byrne drama will debut on April 5.

As earlier spoilers have revealed, the show picks up with therapist Paul Weston having divorced and moved his practice from Maryland to Brooklyn.

He'll speak to a different patient each night of the week, as the series follows the same format as the award-winning first season.

HBO Alters Schedule for In Treatment

In Treatment is coming back in April.

We already know which patients Dr. Paul Weston will be treating on the show's second season. But when will it air?

HBO has altered the way the network is scheduling the show. Rather than air episodes each weeknight, as it did last year, it will bundle episodes on Sunday and Monday nights.

A pair of In Treatment installment will air on Sundays, while three will air on Mondays. The drama will start at 10 p.m. EST both nights.

In Treatment Spoilers: The Return of Glynn Turman

In Treatment returns to HBO in April with a number of changes. Foremost among them?

Season-one showrunner Rodrigo Garcia has handed over writing duties to playwright and longtime "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" producer Warren Leight.

Television critic Alan Sepinwall recently spoke with Leight. He learned key tidbits about season two of In Treatment, such as the status of actor Glynn Turman (pictured), Alex's father on season one.

Q: If Alex’s family is suing Pail, will Glynn Turman be back?
A: Glynn Turman is coming back, and he’s not in a good mood about last season. So I think that’s a fair assumption. And Glynn Turman comes back. Michelle Forbes comes back. The marriage is over, but, you know, there’s always – not all the embers have died out. So we’ll be seeing her. We’ll be seeing two of Paul’s kids at least.

In Treatment Adds Another Patient

In Treatment will return for a second season some time in 2009.

While we don't have an exact premiere date yet, we have learned of a few new patients Gabriel Byrne's Paul Weston will be helping:

Hope Davis will portray a high-powered malpractice lawyer and former patient of Weston's who blames him for being single and childless;
John Mahoney will portray a CEO who feels that his life is getting away from him.

Sources also now confirm that In Treatment has booked Russell Hornsby as one of Dr. Weston' regular patients. The actor, pictured, will play a divorced man with a 12-year-old son.
