A businessman in Hong Kong video chats with his wife before boarding a plane home and sees his wife being brutally attacked by a masked man with a gun. Before he lands, the detectives are already investigating his wife's rape and kidnapping, but the husband says the kidnappers demanded $250,000 and no police involvement. The police insist on being there when the ransom is picked up and discover that Christine, the victim, is sent to grab the money. First she claims that three black men kidnapped and raped her, but the physical evidence doesn't match her testimony. Eventually, the detectives discover that she was having an affair with her delivery guy and arranged the fake rape and her alleged kidnapping. She's charged with obstruction, coercion, and filing a false police report. However, one of the jurors becomes sympathetic to her situation after they share a cigarette together in a stairwell. His refusal to vote guilty leads to a hung jury and a mistrial.
