After not winning Letterman’s job, Louie attempts to return to normalcy, but the holidays have him in an emotional funk. His daughters accompany his ex-wife and boyfriend on a trip to China while Louie plans to sleep his holidays away in dark silence alone. His little sister calls and offers to have him go down to Mexico to visit family, but Louie’s resistant.

After a dream in which he envisions his daughters all grown up and concerned about him STILL being alone and depressed and an eerie news report about suicides, he packs his bag and heads to the airport.

On his way there, he bumps into Liz on the bus and she immediately starts bleeding from the nose and passes out. He accompanies her to the hospital where she quickly loses her life right before the entire staff rings in the New Year.

At the airport, Louie has a choice to make: go to Mexico with his daughter and her family or go to China to find his daughters and ex-wife. In what could be a dream sequence, Louie ends up in china where he searches for a river. He ends up finding it with some help and is disappointed. However, he comes a across a ranch style house where a family invites him in for food, stories, and laughter.
