Mad Men Recap: "Souvenir"

At various points or moments in our lives, we've all tried to be someone else.

But on this week's episode of Mad Men, that desire was more pronounced than ever; various characters, unhappy with their real lives, attempted to step into different shoes, if only for a weekend, a job or a vacation.

How did these transformations turn out? Read our recap of "Souvenir" for the answer.

Roman Adventure

When in Rome, act like other people, right Betty and Don?

Mad Men Recap: "Seven Twenty Three"

There was surprising sex and a major mugging this week on Mad Men, a pair of dramatic events that are likely to have an impact on Peggy and Don, respectively.

The latter was also forced to confront his future and actually sign a contract to remain at Sterling Cooper, something he desperately wanted to avoid.

By the end of the episode, however, he had no choice. How was Don blackmailed into signing this deal? And why does he no longer wish to speak to Roger Sterling?

Our recap of "Seven Twenty Three" has the answers.

Draper, Don

From Don to Betty to Roger, here's a look at a few of our favorite Mad Men quotes from the installment:

Don: They want me, but they can't have me.
Betty: You're right. Why would I think that has anything to do with me? | permalink
Duck [to Peggy]: I was just thinking of all the days I walked by you and didn't even notice. How is that possible? | permalink
Peggy [to Pete]: Stop barging in here and infecting me with your anxiety. | permalink
Roger: I watched the sunrise today. Couldn't sleep.
Don: How was it?
Roger: Average. | permalink

Mad Men Clip from "Guy Walks Into an Advertising Agency"

On the next episode of Mad Men, the employees of Sterling Cooper receive two bad pieces of news in the course of one announcement:

  1. They must work on a holiday;
  2. The big, bad British CEO is coming in for a visit.

Watch a clip of this scene from "Guy Walks Into an Advertising Agency" after the jump and remember to visit TV Fanatic every week for a full Mad Men rundown following each episode.

Mad Men Round Table: "The Fog"

Every week, soon after the latest episode of Mad Men, our staff will come together and analyze various aspects of the most recent hour.

Following "The Fog," for instance, our team of writers dishes on the new member of the Draper clan; Duck's job offer and more. Let's go to the first edition of the Mad Men Round Table!

Will either Pete or Peggy take Duck's job offer?
DapperDon: No. The show simply wouldn't work if it spent too much time outside the office, unless it's focusing on Don's personal life.

PrettyBetty: Peggy is clearly considering it. I bet Pete does something to screw things up for her.

PeteSoup: No way. You can't leave any office building that employs Don Draper. It just isn't done.

Mad Men RT

Will Don really be a better man?
DapperDon: I think so. It doesn't mean he'll win Father of the Year, but that conversation with the prison guard really turned a corner for him.

PrettyBetty: No. These revelations rarely last, and I can promise you this: until Don comes clean about his past to Betty, he'll never truly be changed.

PeteSoup: As long as he keeps looking that way, it doesn't matter to me.

Mad Men Recap: "The Fog"

Welcome to the world of Mad Men, Eugene Scott Draper!

Betty gave birth to a son this week and named him after her late father, much to the chagrin of Don. But the latter did appear to take out a new lease on life, inspired by a talk with a fellow expecting dad in the hospital waiting room. We'll see for how long that lasts.

Also, Pete and Peggy clashed over a surprising offer from Duck.

Read a lot more about both these developments in our episode recap of "The Fog."

Don and Sally

A few of our favorite Mad Men quotes from the hour:

Peggy: It's my decision.
Pete: Your decisions affect me. | permalink
Peggy: I look around and I think: I want what he had. You have everything and you have so much of it.
Don: I suppose that's probably true. | permalink
Betty: Where's Don?
Nurse: He's in the waiting room.
Betty: Bulls**t. He's never where you expect him to be. | permalink

Mad Men: Renewed for Season Four

When Peggy Olson got crazy high on pot this week, that was surprising.

But Mad Men getting picked up for a fourth season by AMC? Not exactly a shocker.

“We always saw the potential for Mad Men,” said network president Charlie Collier. “It’s been extremely gratifying to see the show develop in to such a pop-cultural phenomenon with such a passionate fan base.”

Pregnant Betty

The August 16 season three premiere drew a series-record 2.8 million viewers. Since then, viewership has remained steady.

It's unclear how long Mad Men will remain on the the air, but creator Matthew Weiner has said he'd like to complete the 1960s. If the show continues to jump ahead two years every season, that would guarantee at least six full seasons of this brilliant series.

Mad Men Sneak Peek: "The Arrangements"

Last night on Mad Men, Peggy got high and Roger sang in blackface.

Sadly, it doesn't appear as though any such shenanigans will be duplicated on next week's new episode, although the police showed up at the Draper residence in the previewed scenes that aired after "My Old Kentucky Home."

On the installment titled "The Arrangements," Peggy seeks a new roommate, a rich new client is signed by Sterling Cooper and Don has an argument with his father-in-law.

Check out a scene from the hour after this article's jump.

Mad Men Recap: "My Old Kentucky Home"

On this week's episode of Mad Men, Peggy uttered the funniest line in show history (see below).

Also, Don and Betty attended a party thrown by Roger and his much younger wife; while Joan tried to play the role of good wife for her husband and his obnoxious work colleagues.

Read a detailed recap of "My Old Kentucky Home" now and chime in with your thoughts on it.

Smoking Peggy

Peggy Olson : I'm Peggy Olson and I wanna smoke some marijuana. | permalink
Gene: You think money is the solution to every problem.
Don: No, just this particular one. | permalink
Kinsey: If you were feeling it, you'd be hungry.
Peggy: I am hungry. It's just not worth moving. | permalink
Roger: It's a mistake to be conspicuously happy.
Don: No one thinks you're happy. They think you're foolish. | permalink

Coming to Mad Men: Twins?

On this week's episode of Mad Men, Betty Draper said her baby was kicking. Correction: she said her female baby was kicking.

But will the Drapers really be welcoming a daughter in the near future?

Pregnant Betty

Sources tell TV Guide Magazine that the series has put out a casting call for twin boys to play the part of the newest Draper family members.

Good luck, Don. Between two existing kids, two new twins and a senile father-in-law, you may need to start drinking even earlier in the day than usual.
