When British tourist Robert Branson is murdered while on holiday in Venice Beach, the Major Crimes Unit thinks this crime is related to a series of robberies of tourists visiting Venice Beach. The MO is similar except for that in this instance, the robber pulled out a gun and shot the victim.

Chief Taylor is worried about the victim being British because there's a British journalist covering the crime wave and he doesn't want the UK to issue a travel warning against Venice Beach. He feels obligated to loop the reporter, Peter Ogden, into briefings on the crime. Ogden is cynical, obnoxious and believes all cops are corrupt liars.

As the investigation proceeds, it's clear Peter knows more than Major Crimes does about this crime. They get him to help them connect the victim to Marcus Kemp, a British tourist who claimed to need a gun for protection and who has a lengthy criminal record in England.

Meanwhile, Rusty continues to ignore his bio mom, but Sharon and Provenza encourage him to talk to her. When he does, he's surprised by what she has to say.
