Many years ago, Arthur ignored Guinevere and went off on a quest to find the dagger. Guinevere used Merlin’s gauntlet  (which will lead her to her husband’s greatest weakness) and goes on her own quest to find the dagger and stop her husband’s obsession. Lancelot goes with her and the two kiss. 

When they find the dagger, it is protected by a spell. Rumplestiltskin won’t allow them to have it but he gives Guinevere enchanted sand which will make it look as though Excalibur is fixed. Guinevere tells Lancelot that she loves Arthur and he plans to leave the kingdom. Then she tells Arthur about the sand but says she won’t use it because she only wants him and their kingdom if it’s real. Instead, Arthur uses the enchanted sand on Guinevere to get her to stay as his queen. 

Fast forward and King Arthur asks David to help him find the Dark One’s dagger to restore Excalibur. 

The dagger calls Emma but Regina has put a spell on it so Emma can’t touch it. Hook and Henry take Emma somewhere where she can rest and hopefully the voices will subside. Somewhere away from the dagger. Henry takes them to the stable where Violet keeps her horse. Emma and Hook realize this is Henry’s first crush.

Hook takes Emma on a horseback ride to a field full of flowers. He tells her that he won’t give up on them and the two kiss.

Mary Margaret tells David that Lancelot is alive and he doesn’t trust Arthur. David doesn’t trust Lancelot. David and Mary Margaret argue and then David tells Arthur about Lancelot being alive, Emma being the Dark One and that they have the dagger despite Mary Margaret telling him not to do so. Arthur claims Lancelot is the one who can’t be trusted and that he will help with Emma.

David goes to give Arthur the dagger but it’s missing. Mary Margaret has it. She and Lancelot try to return it to the vault of the Dark One but Arthur follows and tries to steal the dagger from them. But David followed Arthur as he and Mary Margaret had planned. They plan to used Excalibur and the dagger to try and save Emma but Guinevere arrives, still under the spell of the enchanted sand. She uses the sand on David and Mary Margaret who go back and tell Regina and Robin that they can trust Arthur. Then Guinevere throws Lancelot in the dungeon where he finds Merida also being held prisoner. 

Back in Storybrooke, Emma has Merida and takes her heart once again. She plans to use Merida to turn Rumplestiltskin brave so that he can help her pull the sword from the stone.
