Private Practice Gets a Special Guest Star

Taye Diggs is bringing work home with him ... or the reverse, more accurately. The Private Practice star's real-life wife, Tony winner Idina Menzel, will guest star later this season!

Over the course of multiple episodes, Menzel will play the mother of a patient tended to by Pete (Tim Daly). Pete's special "bedside manner" may lead to attraction between him and Menzel's character. No word on whether her character and Diggs' Sam Bennett will share any scenes.

Menzel - who met the Private Practice star while performing Rent on Broadway way back in 1995 - last appeared on TV in 2005's Kevin Hill, which starred - wait for it - Taye Diggs.

Idina Menzel to Guest Star on Private Practice

Taye Diggs is bringing his home to work with him.

The Private Practice star's real-life wife, Tony winner Idina Menzel, will guest star on the ABC series later this season, TV Guide reports.

In multiple episodes, Menzel will play the mother of a patient tended to by Pete (Tim Daly). To hear one source tell it, Pete's special brand of "bedside manner" might bring about an attraction between him and Menzel's character.

At this early stage, it's unclear if Idina Menzel and her main man, who plays Sam Bennett on the Grey's Anatomy spinoff, will share many scenes.

Menzel first met Taye Diggs back in 1995, when they were both cast in the New York Theatre Workshop production of Rent.

They went on to costar in two other stage productions, including Broadway's Wicked (for which Menzel won a Tony, playing "bad witch" Elphaba).

Menzel's most recent TV gig was a pair of episodes of 2005's Kevin Hill, which starred - wait for it - a handsome fella named Taye Diggs.

Kate Walsh: Out, About and Smiling

Single and ready to mingle? Maybe not, but at least she's having fun. Taking a break between Private Practice and Grey's Anatomy filming, Kate Walsh was spotted in Hollywood at Katsuya with friend over the weekend:

Private Practice Recap: "Acceptance"

We saw the phone call Derek received at the end of Grey's Anatomy. But what happened in the 14 hours prior to that in L.A. that prompted Addison to call her ex-husband so urgently?

As expected, it involved the failing health of her brother Archer (Grant Show, below) and Addison's push for treatment of his brain condition. His seizures are bad, and getting worse.

After much cajoling of her stubborn brother, Addison and Naomi convince Archer he must take action. She knows just the man - and that sets the stage for the big crossover event.

Private Practice Episode Guide: "Acceptance"

Last night's Private Practice was a crucial one for Violet, who finally revealed to the potential fathers of her baby that she is pregnant, though she does not know which one of them is the child's father.

Meanwhile, Addison's brother Archer refuses treatment for seizures that threaten to claim his life, but Addison and Naomi are determined to get him treatment for his brain condition - and know just the man.

That's just the short version of everything that went on at Oceanside - and kicked off the much-anticipated crossover event with Grey's Anatomy.

Private Practice Spoilers For This Week, Beyond

E! Online has some interesting Private Practice spoilers for this week's and upcoming episodes today. Let's get down to the spoiler Q&A, shall we?

Q: Anything on the Private Practice side of the crossover?

A: It turns out Archer's tumor is a lot more serious than anyone imagined. It's not a tumor at all - he has parasites on the brain. Archer refuses treatment until he cannot make the decision for himself, which is when Addison, Archer and Naomi fly off to Seattle and the Grey's Anatomy universe.

Q: What's going on with Violet's baby?

A: Violet (Amy Brenneman) finally realizes she is pregnant this week when Dell lets her hear the heartbeat, but she has a panic attack. She is not ready to be a mother at all. The possible baby daddies will find out the news as well, and they're a little pissed she's left it up to Cooper to take care of her.

Q: What is with the abrupt ending to the hot storyline between Wyatt Lockheart and Addison on Private Practice?

A: Wyatt got another job! Or rather, Jay Harrington, who plays Wyatt, got another job. He's going to be appearing on a new ABC comedy called Better Off Ted. Archer (Grant Show) is his replacement, and Archer's tumor is motivation for Thursday's big Grey's Anatomy-Private Practice crossover.
