... Dink asked for permission to marry Maya.

Private Practice Review: "Shotgun"

Thursday's episode of Private Practice centered around Maya's pregnancy and what the next step would be, as well as a patient facing an impossibly painful choice.

The title probably gives you an indication of what the immediate future holds for Maya. Our recap has the basic plot details. Here's TVF's review of "Shotgun" ...

Dink comes to Sam to ask for Maya's hand in marriage. Oh boy. He's lucky he doesn't get Sam's hand upside his head. Still, the kid wants to make it right. Right?

Naomi is beside herself over all of this, but Dink’s mom Corinne (Rosanna Arquette) seems to be behind it ... or at least the kids' efforts given the circumstances.

Sam decides to drown his sorrows at the bar with the boys. But when Pete and Cooper ditch him for various reasons (Lucas, women), he gets pretty drunk solo.

He pops by Addison’s for a nightcap ... and a kiss. Surprised, but clearly attracted to him, Addison stops because Sam is drunk. His reply? "I'm not that drunk."

HOT! Or not? We're a little conflicted, we admit.

Engaged Teens

Maya is 15. She is engaged. To a guy named Dink. DINK. This is hard on Sam.

The next day they analyze the kiss in her office. That almost leads to more kissing before Sheldon c*ck blocks Sam. Unwittingly, but still. Naomi wants to see her ex.

Naomi is still a mess over the situation with their daughter. Sam says when he meets with Corinne again, he’s going to have to start making decisions for them both.

Private Practice Review: "Best Laid Plans"

Thursday night's episode of Private Practice was fairly predictable as far as the primary storyline was concerned, but still had some memorable, well-acted scenes.

If you missed it or need a refresher on the details, here's our episode guide to last night's Private Practice. Now here's our take on the events of "Best Laid Plans" ...

For whatever reason, TV shows will not feature a character getting an abortion. Past abortions people reflect upon are okay, but present-day ones don't happen.

Take it to the bank. For whatever reason, this is the last taboo, so you knew that Maya would not actually terminate her pregnancy, despite coming thisclose. Weak.

We're not saying we favor abortions, we just wouldn't mind a show taking a different tack. Let's say Maya has Addison perform the abortion instead. Will she regret it? Will her parents?

Will she tell the guy? What is the emotional fallout?

We'll never know, because she chooses life! As Naomi marches Maya in to see Dell helping a patient give birth, in hopes of freaking her out, she is enchanted!

Talk about predictable and cliched.

Smacked!

Pregnant Maya gets slapped by Naomi as Sam reacts in disbelief.

Naomi then pulls a Violet and runs away from Sam, because she just can't deal! Sam, in turn, confronts and threatens Dink, who didn't know Maya was pregnant. Oops.

Meanwhile, Violet tries to get the hospital to stop sending her free samples of baby products because she "is no longer a mother." A man who just lost his wife overhears.

Will Addison and Sam Couple Up on Private Practice?

We were told things would be “heating up” between Addison and Sam on Private Practice, and last week's Grey's Anatomy crossover episode definitely delivered on that front.

Mark Sloan was the "additional complication" teased for the pair last week, as his (naked) appearance in L.A. made Sam jealous. But now that he's gone, is the path cleared?

Not even close. Pete has also been rumored to be back in the mix. Star Kate Walsh won't reveal much more than that, but does say this about the future of Addison and Sam:

“I love the dynamic between them,” she says. “I think it’s very natural that these two people who are close, who end up running a business together as well as living next door to each other and hanging out would want to explore a relationship.”

Sam and Addie

The dynamic between these two is an interesting one.

But, she observes, “there’s a huge, massive obstacle in the fact he used to be married to her best friend.” That's definitely a potential snag, but will it stop them? Should it?

We'd guess that whatever feelings might be there, Maya's bombshell dropped on her parents tonight (see sneak previews) will put romance on the back burner for now.

What do you think? Should Addison and Sam couple up?

Yes, that would be so hot!
No, they are better as friends ...

Will You Watch The Deep End?

Looking to bolster its viewership of Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice while garnering buzz for a new series, ABC has essentially ... cloned Grey's Anatomy, only in a law firm.

Ladies and gentlemen, The Deep End!

The new drama focuses on first-year associates at a prestigious Los Angeles firm. These young, attractive lawyers will be thrown into both the courtroom and the bedroom.

The Deep End cast features Billy Zane of Titanic fame and a host of attractive newcomers. Much like Grey's, circa 2005, combining Patrick Dempsey with relative unknowns.

What can viewers expect on the series premiere? We'll find out Thursday at 8 p.m. EST. More importantly, will you be watching the series debut? Vote in our survey below:

Private Practice Round Table: "Another Second Chance"

Last night's Grey's Anatomy-Private Practice event featured a case that brought two Sloans to L.A., as we detailed in our lengthy recap of "Another Second Chance."

We've already broken down the first hour of last night's crossover in our Grey's Anatomy Round Table. Now it's time to do the same with the Private Practice portion.

Here's the TV Fanatic panel's Private Practice Round Table discussion ...

1. What was your favorite Private Practice quote from the episode?

The Barnacle: Sam: "Sloan is a Dachshund. Dachshunds like to eat poop."

iheartizzie: Naomi: "Hi. Did you sleep with Mark Sloan on the floor of your office?" Direct, to the point. Much like when Addison slept with Mark on the floor of her office.

L.J. Gibbs: I wouldn't say they were my favorites, because they were so harsh, but Charlotte and Cooper trading barbs was definitely the most intense scene of the night.

M.L. House: When Addison tried to hold off Mark's advances by telling him: "I said put something on top of it. Don't put something on me!" We all know how this ended, of course: nakedly!

2. Should Mark have moved to L.A. to be with Addison?

M.L. House: No. He'd be one of millions of pretty faces there. He's at his McSteamiest in Seattle.

iheartizzie: I'm probably going to be shredded in the comments for this, but yes! How great a couple are he and Addison? He made a great point about L.A. and plastic surgery, too. The practice could thrive on business from Heidi Montag alone.

L.J. Gibbs: Good crossover last night, but it would have been too hokey for him to follow Addie to California. They're even stretching it with the frequent crossovers.

The Barnacle: It was great to see him back with Addison, but only as a spur-of-the-moment fling. Mark's maternal instinct was going haywire and he was in prime nesting mode. That was bound to end sooner rather than later, though.

Private Practice Music From Last Night

Thursday night's Grey's Anatomy music selections provided a fitting soundtrack to the emotional highs and lows experienced by the doctors we know and love.

The tunes played on "Another Second Chance," the ensuing episode of Private Practice which continued the principal Grey's Anatomy story line, had a similar impact.

Here's a look at the music played on last night's Private Practice ...

  • Raphael Saadiq - "Let's Take A Walk" Raphael Saadiq - The Way I See It (Bonus Track Version) - Let's Take a Walk
  • Tyrone Wells - "Sink Or Swim" Tyrone Wells - Remain - Sink or Swim
  • Matt Nathanson - "Bulletproof Weeks" Matt Nathanson - Some Mad Hope - Bulletproof Weeks
  • James Morrison - "Please Don't Stop The Rain" James Morrison - Songs for You, Truths for Me - Please Don't Stop the Rain

Private Practice Review: "Another Second Chance"

Thursday night's dramatic Private Practice followed a similarly crazy hour on its sister show (see our Grey's Anatomy review) and left several questions unanswered in L.A.

If you missed it or need a refresher on the details, here's our episode guide to last night's Private Practice (we've begun compiling quotes and music from last night, too).

Now here's our take on the events of "Another Second Chance" ...

Mark on Private Practice!

We pick up the action in L.A. and Mark and Addison needing to let off steam. Of course, the promo 15 minutes ago already showed naked, so there was little shock value.

Nonetheless, they proceed to the couch and floor of Addison's office. He's reeling from being dumped by Lexie, and she's ... well, she's Addison. Always a little bit fragile.

The surgery on Sloan was pretty dramatic on Grey's Anatomy, but more secondary on Private Practice. There were some tense moments, but Addison got the job done.

This hour was more about Mark not knowing what he wants. He says he's moving to L.A. so he and Addison can help Sloan raise the baby. That's just crazy talk ... right?
