Mary, concerned that all the court drama has been taking a toll on Francis's two younger brothers, suggests to Bash that they take them out for some fun.
-Bash wants to protect them by removing them from the court, but Mary objects, due to her own upbringing away from her court and family.
-Bash fakes a kidnapping of the two boys at a winter fair--really, he has paid off a driver to take them away from court, and out of harm's way.
-But when their carriage stops, Clarissa (who has stowed away) appears and kidnaps the boys.
-Mary and Bash track Clarissa, along with Catherine, who has recently survived a suicide attempt.
-They confront Clarissa, who almost repents, but at the last moment, she makes to cut one of the princes necks.
-At the last second, Mary kills Clarissa with a blow to the head.
-In Paris, Lola tries to help her brother out with his gambling debts, but finds herself in over her head.
-She receives unexpected help from Francis, who has traveled to Paris in his time away.
-The two connect, and are swept away in a moment of passion.
