One of Alex's patients ends up in a coma. The case becomes personal for Alex as she struggles to cope with Charlie's prolonged stay in his coma. The patient and Charlie become friends in the in-between but when she wakes up, she doesn't remember him.
Dr. Goran treats a man who modifies his body so that his outward identity matches who he believes himself to be. Joel, at first, has issues accepting this man's decision to modify his body, but eventually comes to accept it.
Dawn, Charlie's ex wife, plans to petition to be able to make decisions regarding Charlie's medical care.
