An art restorer at the Sleepy Hollow Historical Society is working on a painting. Suddenly the thing begins to bleed, but was it just a vision?

At Corbin's old cabin, the Cranes prepare to attend the Historical Society's big soiree. However, an uncomfortable Abbie warns her friend that a night out on the town isn't going to change the fact that Katrina's done things to compromise the team.

The art restorer, Mr. Hollister, approaches the Cranes at the banquet and shares his concerns about the specific painting.

At the other end of the room, Katrina touches Abigail Adams' desk recalling conversations with her old friend. She tells Ichabod these memories have a purpose, she can feel it.

Suddenly, a blood curdling scream rings out and the Cranes rush to find Mr. Hollister's dead body hanging upside down. Ichabod notices that the position of the body is meant to invoke the hanged man from a tarot card deck. "Turning over the hanged man reflects struggle; from death to rebirth" Katrina explains.

While standing directly across from the painting theorizing, the Cranes notice the artist inside has turned around to stare at them angrily.

The couple decides they must research this mysterious painter and learn, Colby, was exiled and disappeared without a trace in 1782.

Captain Irving appears at the police station to Abbie's surprise. When she shares this information with Crane, he wonders if Irving might be a zombie like Andy Brooks was. Irving did, inadvertently, sign his soul away to the Horseman of War after all.

Katrina uses a spell to enter the painting along with Ichabod. Once inside, they locate and fight against the villainous Colby. The duo manage to trap the killer inside temporarily, but he somehow manages to break free of the painting.

Luckily for the Cranes, Abbie had sent Jenny on a mission to retrieve a set of enchanted platinum bullets. These bullets were said to have the power to take down evil like this one.

When Colby emerges from his masterpiece, Abbie shoots several rounds at the painting stopping the fiend in his tracks.

Ichabod and Katrina chat, promising each other they will find a way to survive all this.

Irving's supernatural situation remains a mystery; for now.
