Recap

After avoiding elimination the previous leg and facing a Speed Bump in this week’s leg, Gary and Mallory were thrilled to learn that the teams would begin this leg with a train ride to Feldkirch, Austria, allowing them to draw even with the other five teams.  Their joy was short lived, however, as the father-daughter team fell behind out of the train station courtesy of a poor cab ride.

The pair arrived at the border between Austria and Lichtenstein, Schaanwald, in last place and had to complete their Speed Bump.  The ensuing Roadblock had teams riding motorized bikes and Gary and Mallory had to figure out how to correctly create a mixture of 25 parts gasoline to 1 part oil in order to make their bike run.  After some initial fumbling, the pair figured out the math and was on their way to the Roadblock.

Using the aforementioned motorized bikes and a provided map, the selected team member had to navigate the length of Lichtenstein, approximately 22 kilometers, and determine the correct distance using the bike’s odometer.  Many of the teams got lost in some fashion, but Jen lost her map and seemed doomed.  Lost himself, however, Justin had to let Jen look at his map to figure out where to go.

After the pair finished the Roadblock in first and second place, Jet arrived at the southern end of Lichtenstein but had the wrong distance, forcing him to go back and trace the route again.  Flight Time and Gary also had the wrong distance, but ran in to the leading teams who provided them with the right answer, hoping to push the cowboys further back.

Another train ride, this time to Zermatt, Switzerland, waited after the Roadblock.  Zev and Justin and Kisha and Jen made it on the first train while Flight Time and Big Easy, Gary and Mallory and Kent and Vyxsin made it on a second train.  Well behind the other teams because of Jet’s error on the Roadblock, Jet and Cord had a lot of time to make up.

Upon arriving in Zermatt, Switzerland, the teams faced a Detour.  Their options were Cheese or Wheeze.  For Cheese the teams had to consume an entire bowl of cheese fondue before receiving their next clue.  In Wheeze the teams had to deliver 20 pieces of luggage to a variety of different hotels to complete the task.

Arriving at the Detour first, Zev and Justin and Kisha and Jen both chose Cheese, but were quickly overwhelmed by the task.  Kisha and Jen decided to switch to Wheeze, but Zev convinced Justin to stick out.  The best friends were rewarded by completing the task first and making their way to the Pit Stop with their fourth leg win.

On their way to the Pit Stop, Zev and Justin declined to use the Double U-Turn, a theme for this episode.  Kisha and Jen, Kent and Vyxsin and Gary and Mallory all declined to use the double U-Turn leaving just Flight Time and Big Easy and Jet and Cord.  Having made two mistakes during the Detour, but barely ahead of Jet and Cord, the Globetrotters chose to use the U-Turn on Jet and Cord.  The only team forced to do both ends of the Detour, the cowboys came in last and were eliminated.
