Penny decides to devote 100% of her time to acting, and begins by quitting her job at the Cheesecake Factory. Leonard offers her his verbal support, while trying to hide his worry about her rash decision. She finds unexpected support in Sheldon, who struggles with being forced to use up his vacation days. The two of them discover that they have a similar mindset: the need to pursue their goals wholeheartedly, without the safety net of another job. When Leonard phones her during the day and hears that she's at the Cheesecake Factory, he expresses his relief at her getting her job back, but discovers she's only there to drop off her uniform. Later, he explains his nervousness to her, and assures her that though he could never do what she has done, it doesn't mean she shouldn't, and that he's proud of her.
Meanwhile, Bernadette accidentally burns one of Howard's comic books with her curling iron, and tries to get it replaced without him knowing about it. She goes to Stuart's store, but finds that he doesn't have any copies. They both visit a competitor store, where she meets the obnoxious owner, who pokes fun at Stuart. Angrily, she leaves without buying the comic but returns later - in order to tell him off and buy the comic if he still has it. He does.
Raj and Howard meet up with Amy at work, and asks if she wants to go with them to lunch. One of Amy's workmates - Bert - comes in to talk with Amy and give her one of the quartz rocks from his lab. After he leaves, Raj and Howard explain to her that Bert really likes her. Later, Bert shows up again to ask her out. She tries to explain to him that she has a boyfriend. He plays the pity card, to which Amy responds with guilt, offering to go with him to the rock and minieral show. After telling this to Howard and Raj, they offer to tell him she's not going, so that they can let him down easily. Bert convinces them to join him, which they reluctantly do.
