Review Round Table Quotes

Recap

Alicia visits Eli at his office. She makes Eli repeat Will’s message. Will had said that she could ignore the message and things would go back to the way they were between them. She realizes that that must be what Will thought she was doing when she didn’t respond.

A convict, Clayton Riggs in court whispers “help me” to Alicia. He was her second client in bond court. He’s been in jail for eight months because Alicia ticked off the judge and he fined her client with $150,000 bail. Since then he’s had three different lawyers and the prosecutor keeps asking for continuances. Clayton has lost his job, his wife, and his child is a ward of Child Protective Services. Alicia convinces Clayton to drop his current attorney, Bernie from bond court, and take her on in order to sue the judge for violating Clayton’s civil rights.  The judge is furious.

They go to court. Judge Shakowsky’s attorney says that he has immunity but the judge ruling on the case says that if he knowingly violated Mr. Riggs rights, then that immunity is stripped but they can’t prove it so the case is dismissed.

Bernie convinces Clayton to take him back as his attorney and fight to get him out of prison. They also sue Alicia for malpractice.

Jason returns. He didn’t like California and he wants to work for Alicia again but she’s acting strangely so he calls Diane who immediately gives him work and wants him to work for the firm on a permanent basis. Jason and Lucca meet for drinks and Lucca is shocked that Alicia hasn’t hired him back or spoken to her about it. When Lucca brings it up, Alicia goes so far as to imply that Lucca and Jason have a more personal relationship.

Lucca confronts Alicia who breaks down and admits that she’s miserable. That she’s hurting and she just wants it all to be over. Lucca hugs her, tells her she wants to be her friend, and makes sure she doesn’t have any guns in the house.

Alicia is in no state to testify in the malpractice case so Lucca has to but then they need another attorney to represent them so they hire Cary. He can’t get the case dismissed and Bernie refuses to settle. Alicia’s malpractice insurance will only cover $300,000 and they are being sued for $1.5 million.

Illinois Park College is trying to close down its student newspaper and one of the students is a big client for Lockhart, Agos, and Lee so Diane has taken on the case. The school wants to close down the newspaper because a student wrote an editorial criticizing the school board’s policy of dealing with products made in Israel. Jason helps on the case and Diane eventually wins the case.

Eli points out to Alicia that although he hates what he did, that he didn’t prevent Alicia and Will from getting together because they did and neither of them could have prevented Will from being killed. Alicia forgives him.

Cary asks Alicia to come back to the firm as a junior partner and that they will pick up whatever expense comes from her malpractice suit.
