The Hills producers say the show may return after the new season (which premieres April 6) even without Lauren Conrad, who's retiring from the series. But without Conrad and her friend Audrina Patridge in the cast, that may be pushing it.

Patridge and Survivor / The Apprentice guru Mark Burnett are pitching a new reality series starring Audrina, according to reports. It will focus on the next phase of her life - personally and professionally. Doesn't that sound riveting? Can you even contain yourself?

She would be the third Hills mainstay to move on (Whitney Port having secured her own show already with MTV's The City, which has been renewed for a second season).

We know that Lauren Conrad, the show's protagonist, will not. Could the faux reality show possibly continue in her absence, focusing merely on the ancillary SoCal peeps?

Spencer Pratt would totally be down, but it's very much up in the air. One thing's for sure, though, says creator Adam DiVello: The trailer for the new season (below) showing an LC-Heidi reunion is misleading, in large part because of the lingering presence of Spencer.

Ridiculous as it seems that there are "spoilers" for a reality show, you remember what happened with The Bachelor, right? Those were totally right, and wildly controversial!

The Hills' fifth season starts in late March.

It will be the MTV hit's last, Lauren Conrad has confirmed.

The beautiful star, whose life has been chronicled on reality TV for years on Laguna Beach and The Hills, has been expressing a desire to pursue other interests - and have more privacy - for some time now, so this move is not altogether surprising.

This season, on The Hills ...

• After conning us all with their faux marriage to wrap up Season Four, Heidi and Spencer stage a fake fight and possibly even a fake divorce.

• Heidi and LC may make up, and Brody and Spencer may patch up their bro-mance. We feel lame for even writing the previous sentence.

• Lauren Conrad and Lo Bosworth move out of their house. Into a condo. Yeah, even the manufactured story lines are kind of running out.

In last night's fourth-season finale, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag were just about to legally tie the knot in a civil ceremony after staging their marriage in Cabo. But at the last minute, Spencer had second thoughts - because Heidi deserves the fairy-tale wedding she always dreamed of.

And so they can milk celeb gossip tabloids for a few more years if needed.
