Agent Abbott's former boss, Bill Peterson returned and was so determined to destroy Abbott and his wife Lena that he travelled to Mexico to dig up the corpse of the cartel commander whom Abbott had shot and killed. Peterson even dug the bullet out of the man's skull in order to have evidence to hold over Abbott.

With things looking bleak for Abbott and Lena, Patrick Jane offered his help. It wasn't long before Lisbon, Cho, Wiley and Vega were all on board as well. As Jane, Lisbon, Cho and Wiley tried to track down the money they believed Peterson had been skimming over the years on DEA raids, Vega was tailing the man and watching his movements. When she had to stall him or risk her teammates getting caught in his home, she even went so far as to ram his car with her own.

In the end, Jane couldn't break open Peterson's safe but he did one better. He got piles of cash and took photos of it with Peterson's cat sitting on top, making the man believe his money had been found.
