True Blood Season 5 Preview: A Royal Return

It was rather clear when Eric and Bill chose to bury him instead of kill him.

And it was even more clear when Denis O'Hare came out and said he'd be back for season five.

But HBO has now pretty much confirmed the return of Russell Edgington in its first official True Blood promo for the summer ahead, teasing how "nothing stays buried forever" in Bon Temps. The spot was released last night, prior to the series premiere of Luck.

Giles Matthey to Touch Down on True Blood Season Five

Giles Matthey has nabbed a recurring role on season five of True Blood.

The actor - whose limited resume includes a stint on an episode of The Good Wife last year - will appear on multiple episodes as Claude, a British fairy described in the Sookie Stackhouse novels as "the nephew of Sookie’s half-human/half-fairy grandfather, Fintan, and cousin to Sookie’s father."

Claude is a gay character who - according to the books, again - is a strip club owner that formerly took his clothes off for a living.

True Blood returns this summer with new episodes, though HBO is yet to announce a premiere date.

Christopher Heyerdahl to Ancient Vampire on True Blood

Get your fangs back out, Christopher Heyerdahl. You'll need them this this summer.

The actor - most recently seen on Hell on Wheels as The Swede, but also known to many for his role as Marcus from The Twilight Saga - will recur on season five of True Blood as an ancient vampire named Dieter Braun.

According to Deadline, the character is connected to the Authority and has a fondness for enhanced interrogation.

Christopher Meloni of course, has been named a series regular on the HBO smash and many believe that long-time SVU star will be portraying the Authority himself.

True Blood Casting Note: Paging the Pelts!

Considering the loony, zany personality of Debbie Pelt, it's hard not to imagine what the two people who spawned the late ex-girlfriend of Alcide on True Blood are like.

Well... fans won't need to imagine on season five. We'll be meeting Debbie's parents.

HBO has sent out casting notices for Barbara and Gordon Pelt, both of whom are in their 50s and both of whom will first appear on episode three this summer.

Barbara is described as "kindly" and "well-dressed," while her husband is the same... but he'll also grow angry with Alcide when he speaks ill of their daughter, who they believe is simply missing.

In other, major True Blood casting news, Christopher Meloni has been confirmed as a season five regular. No word yet on when new episodes will premiere.

True Blood might soon drop a casting bombshell on the television universe.

Sources close to the HBO series tell Michael Ausiello that former Law & Order: SVU star Christopher Meloni is being courted by the show to come on board season five in the "major role" of a powerful vampire.

Meloni, of course, shocked fans of that long-running NBC drama when he announced his departure in May following 12 seasons as Detective Stabler. Who might he portray on True Blood?

Considering the recent news that the show was also casting for members of the Authority's council, combined with the season four finale development of Bill and Eric joining forces to take on the ultimate, blood-sucking higher up, might Meloni play the Authority himself?!?

UPDATE: It's official, says Alan Ball: Meloni will play "an ancient, powerful vampire who holds the fate of Bill and Eric in his hands" and is the "mastermind of the mainstream movement."

HMMMM...

True Blood: Casting for the Council

True Blood is shifting its focus to a quintet of key vampires.

Following the casting of a pair of new werewolves, the HBO hit is now seeking five actors/actresses to recur on season five as members of the Authority council. Among those we'll meet next summer:

Kibwe, who believes vampires can be rehabbed.
Rosalyn, a Texas native with a lot of hait.
Alexander, am irritating nine-year old who loves cigarettes.

How will these new vampires come into play? We can't say for certain, but season four concluded with Eric and Bill agreeing to team up against the Authority.

Kelly Overton and Louis Herthum to Play Werewolves on True Blood

True Blood continues to expand its season five cast.

Days after Valentina Cervi was announced as an upcoming villain, Deadline reports that the HBO smash has added a pair of new werewolves. They will be...

Rikki, played by Kelly Overton, a revenge-filled wolf who demands to know what became of Marcus. She is booked for six episodes.
Louis Herthum will portray what is described as a "Marine-type" of wolf who will clash with Alcide. He is booked for five episodes.

Both actors have options to become series regulars in 2013, but we're getting way ahead of ourselves. Look for even more werewolves to be cast over the next few weeks on True Blood.

Valentina Cervi to Play Powerful True Blood Villain

Valentina Cervi is the latest actress to join True Blood as a series regular.

The Italian actress will come on board season five, according to Michael Ausiello, as Salome, a character described in earlier HBO casting notices as an intelligent seductress... with serious powers, and an unstable personality.

In the bible, of course, Salome is the daughter of Herodias and is mentioned at various points throughout the New Testament.

Other recent True Blood casting news include: Dale Dickey as Marcus' mother; and Lucy Griffths as a progeny of Godric's.

Dale Dickey is coming for Alcide.

The former My Name is Earl star - who has also appeared on such shows as Bones and Criminal Minds - has landed a key role on the fifth season of True Blood: she'll recur as Annie, the mother of Marcus.

Look for this werewolf to arrive in town, TV Line reports, and seek revenge against Alcide, the creature responsible for her son's death.

Annie is the second major, new role to be filled on True Blood over the past few weeks. Lucy Griffths will also come on board next summer as Nora, another progeny of Godric's. True Blood begins shooting the new season in just two weeks.

Lucy Griffiths Joins True Blood as Series Regular

Lucy Griffiths has landed a major role on season five of True Blood.

The British actress, who has scant experience on American television, will come on board next summer as Nora, the ancient quasi-relative of Eric's who was also created by Godric. Look for this key character to be working as a double agent for the Authority.

Nora will know Eric well and care for him passionately... but her dedication to the Authority will cause a major riff between "brother" and "sister," considering how season four concluded with Eric and Bill agreeing to team up against Him.

Nora is the first significant vampire to be cast. Look for a bevy of werewolves to soon join her in Bon Temps.

Filming on season five of True Blood kicks off the week after Thanksgiving.
