Recap

Alma is a full member of the Elysian Garden Club who throws lavish parties and is well received by everyone.

Although she got everything she wanted, Alma has realized that she's not happy nonetheless.

When the chapter presidency comes up in conversation, Alma wants to toss her hat into the ring, although she acts as if she's not at all interested.

Joan doesn't think that Alma is presidential material, which Alma doesn't take well at all. When Alma and Joan both decide to run, the look on Alma's face suggests that Joan might be the next corpse.

Bertram is trying to reach Dee after her wedding to Vern. When he visits, Vern makes an excuse and sends him away. Still, he notices that he's torn up inside. Vern doesn't understand why Dee won't tell him what's going on. He doesn't want her to cut off her parents without an explanation.

They're having a baby. How would she feel if their child did the same thing to them one day?

Rita gets an ugly dress to leave jail. She's having a difficult time with Isabel's death, but she's eager to get home since she's back in Carlo's will again. She's going to kick Catherine's ass all the way back to Texas.

Catherine and Scooter are preparing for Rita's arrival. Scooter worries that Catherine is going to hurt Rita. Catherine admits she's got something delicious in mind that won't cause her guilt.

Alma begins calling people to ask for their vote. She starts with Grace, who wants to support Joan because she's had a rough year.

Dee goes home, and Alma is her new self, but when Dee asks why Mrs. Yost is in the garden, she's silenced.

Vern gets the result of Carlo and Isabel's autopsies, which links them through the method. Vern learns you have to be some kind of a doctor to get them through a pharmacy.

Alma lies to Dee about what happened to Mrs. Yost. Bertram was having an affair with Mrs. Yost, and when he ended it, Mrs. Yost made a beeline to Alma with a large knife, and then Bertram pushed her out the window, where she landed on their garden sheers.

Alma gets Dee not to tell anyone about what they've discussed.

Rita arrives home to Catherine full of knowledge about her past in prostitution. She also knows that Harry was murdered.

Harry survived the gunshot, and they never divorced, so Rita was never really married to Carlo. Catherine makes a big production out of it and shows Rita the door.

Rita cannot believe that Scooter is there. He intervened, asking Catherine to stop treating Rita poorly. Ultimately, it didn't matter.

Alma called Joan's fired help to see if she could find something on her opponent. Every Tuesday and Friday at 1:30, Joan visits the Sunset Palace Hotel.

Vern visits the pharmacy and needs to show Yvonne Andrew Jackson to discover who would buy that combination of drugs. Vern learns the truth. It's Bertram. He's shocked.

Vern goes to his detective friend and asks about his situation. The detective says that if he loved the girl, he'd look away and never look back. But other good men can only do the right thing. Vern worries that if he talks to Dee and she asks him to look the other way that it will change the way he feels about her.

Rita hopes that she can stay in Joan's guestroom. Joan turns her down.

Bertram is in the midst of a discussion with the singer he murdered when Dee confronts him about Mrs. Yost.

Rita needs money and clothes that she hopes to get at the mansion. Running into Scooter, he agrees to help in eight hours. She hasn't even eaten today, so he stuffs a banana in her hand and returns to Catherine.

Bertram cannot believe that Alma made up such a story, but he backs her up. Dee needs Mrs. Yost to have a proper burial. Despite everything, she still loves her dad very much.

Alma is spying on Joan at the hotel. The woman with her is Grace!

Vern calls Mrs. Philcott. He needs to speak with Alma right away. He says it's very important and can't wait. She hangs up on him.

Scooter visits Rita's bedroom, where Catherine is packing Rita's things, and Catherine gets suspicious. He pulls out of it by asking her and Otto to cook for him.

Everyone is buzzing with news of Rita's prostitution at the birthday party for Mavis. Alma begins poking Grace and Joan with what she learned.

Alma blackmails Joan to drop out of the presidential race and back her for candidacy. Alma is finally in charge of her own destiny, she says. When Joan tries to leave, Alma lets her have it.

Joan pulls Grace aside.

Dinner is ready, but Scooter is running to the store. Otto and Catherine see Scooter take the suitcase. Otto would follow him, but Catherine knows who Scooter is meeting.

Dee gets home and needs to talk, but Vern isn't there. She finds a note. He's on a big case. Don't wait up.

Vern is breaking into Alma's house.

Joan drops out of the race and endorses Alma. Mavis cannot believe it.

When Alma steps on stage, the look that Joan gives her is tragic. And when Joan turns around, it seems that she's got something in store for Alma.

Bertram hopes to get more alcohol for his cab ride home.

Alma finds Vern in the house. He's got the drugs in his hand. She's gobsmacked.

Rita is thrilled that Scooter came with clothes and cash. He says he would never abandon her. But he abandons her.

Scooter says Catherine is real nice to him. Rita realizes she was not very nice to him, and he says she really wasn't. But she's complicated. She wanted people to envy her because that's the only time people treat you right -- when you have something they want.

Rita says that God took it all away to teach her a lesson.

Otto says it's what they expected, and he can have Scooter's things removed from the house straight away. Catherine is walking toward Scooter and Rita, who are in an embrace. Scooter is actually telling the truth, but Catherine is sick of lies and liars. She pulls out a gun to shoot Rita, but when Otto grabs her, she shoots Scooter and Bertram instead.
