11 Hopes We Have for Nashville Season 4

at .  Updated at .

Say what you want about that finale episode, but Nashville Season 3 Episode 22 left all of our favorite characters in quite a lurch, and we're more eager than ever to see them return to our screens!

Preferably ALIVE.

Actually, we have a lot of preferences on what we'd like to see from Nashville's finest country music stars in the upcoming season, so we compiled a list of the top "must haves" for you below.

Check out the top 11 Hopes We Have for Nashville Season 4, and add your own in comments below!

1. Deacon to survive surgery

This one is a gimme. The chances that Nashville actually killed off Rayna's 'forever love' in the finale are slim to none, so we expect to hear that Deacon is alive and well and recovering from surgery in the first five minutes of the premiere. But let's all knock on wood, just in case!

2. Scarlett and Gunnar to get together already

We've had three whole seasons of will they, won't they, are they – nope, wait yes, agghhhh! – for Scarlett and Gunnar's romantic relationship, and we are ready to get off this merry-go-round. Obviously, we'd prefer for them to live happily ever after in duet heaven, but if not, then just let these two move on already!

3. Someting good to happen to Layla

Please let something – anything – good happen to Layla. She is her own worst enemy way too often, but honestly, the entire world seems to be out to kill this girl's success sometimes. Let's hope that Layla ditches Jeff and gets her career back on the rails this season.

4. The end of Juliette's post-partum depression

This was an intriguing story when it first began, but it also took a wrecking ball right through Juliette's personal life and career. Not to mention, it's hard to like a character who acts TOTALLY LOCO most of the time. We have a feeling this one might drag on for a while, but hopefully we can get the normal Juliette back soon!

5. Jeff to turn into an acutal human being

So many times last year we came close to actually caring about Jeff Fordham and believing that he could be a decent guy. And every time, that lasted all of five minutes before he was doing something awful again. Every show needs an antagonist, but this guy's sense of morality is playing ping pong with our feelings!

6. Maddie to get signed to a label

Rayna has been fighting an uphill battle against Maddie's breathtaking talent for three years now, ever since she first picked up a guitar in Season 1. She's only 16, but so was Taylor Swift when she first debuted! Maybe if she signs with Rayna, her mom can ease her into stardom the right way?

7. Daddy Avery!

Avery turned out to be such an amazing parent, and he really picked up the slack during Juliette's breakdown. He even went so far as to leave her when it became clear that it was in Cadence's best interest. Now that he's a full-time daddy, we're looking forward to many more adorable moments between him and his daughter!

8. Happiness for Will

This guy has been struggling to stay in the closet for so long! Now that he's out, is it too much to ask that he just get a few minutes of happiness? Probably. The course of a gay country music star never did run smoothly, so Will is probably going to be dealing with a sudden onslaught of awfulness now that he's told the world about his preference for men. Poor guy.

9. Love for Luke

Luke has gotten the short end of the stick so far when it comes to love. First Rayna, who left him at the altar. Then Sadie, who shot her ex and left town just as things were heating up between them. Then Jade St. John, who turned out to be just a little too much fun for him. This year, Luke deserves a good, old-fashioned romance where he doesn't have to punch anyone.

10. More Rayna and Juliette duets

This one might take a little longer to pull together, since the last time we saw Juliette she was breaking her contract with Rayna to sign with Luke Wheeler. Uh oh! Nevertheless, these two ladies always create the most epic musical numbers together, so let's cross our fingers that one is on tap for Season 4!

11. Less of Teddy's political intrigue

With Eric Close no longer listed as a series regular, our wish to see less of Teddy's legal drama in Season 4 might come true! For too long, Teddy has been the squeaky wheel on an otherwise stellar musical ensemble, and his mayoral subplots felt like they belonged on a totally different show. Sorry, Teddy, but we'll be kind of glad to see you go.

Nashville Quotes

Why can't they just give out the damn award already? Why do they have to throw so many parties?

Juliette

What you're bailing on the party? Great that's one less person's feelings I have to tiptoe around all night.
