Roles for women on television are getting better all the time.
There are so many different women playing characters who lead, for instance. Some do it with strength and compassion, while others get away with physicality or a snarky attitude. Some manage to turn the eyes of those around them so people follow as if they're the Pied Piper.
Some women play characters who are true friends, romantic interests or the brains of an organization. Still, others dig into tasty types like villains, having fun with their bad girl behavior.

Kiele Sanchez from Kingdom has long been forgotten for her weird appearance on Lost, and we still worry about Callie's reaction to Jim's situation on their wedding day on The Glades, but the work she's doing on the Audience Network's Kingdom as Lisa Prince (currently airing its final season) is amazing. She's far more than a pretty face.
2. Allison Scagliotti from Stitchers
Allison Scagliotti from Stitchers plays Camille Engleson on the Freeform series, but we really fell in love with her as Claudia on Warehouse 13. Scagliotti seems like a fun and free spirit.
3. Ellen Barkin from Animal Kingdom
Ellen Barkin from Animal Kingdom currently airing on TNT has always played a sexy heroine, but as the antihero Janine 'Smurf' Cody, we find it hard to believe she's the mother of three hot grown men and a grandson, to boot!

Kim Dickens from Fear the Walking Dead made her mark on television with shows such as Treme and Sons of Anarchy but watching her kick zombie ass and lead her family and other survivors with the strength only a woman and mother can offer is a new level of sexy.
7. Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones
Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones is like a master of disguise. Her everyday look is so different than Daenerys Targaryen, she can probably sneak around the streets without being mobbed. That doesn't take away from her impact in screen, though, and she's already played Sarah Connor in Terminator Genisys and has a role in the upcoming Hans Solo Star Wars film.

Dawn-Lyen Gardner from Queen Sugar makes everything look easy. She has an easy style, an elegance and that sort of bitchy attitude in her role as Charley Bordelon West on the OWN Network hit that keeps you guessing. We like the whole package!

Alice Braga from Queen of the South takes TV by storm in her role as Teresa Mendoza on the USA series. The Brazilian beauty is as comfortable kicking around in the dirt as she is dressed in the finest designer clothing.

Alyssa Sutherland From The Mist has already proven her reigning grace on Vikings, and she'll go up nature's biggest and most mysterious threats to save her family and her town. We have faith in her.

Jill Flint From The Night Shift normally doesn't have any problem saving patients nor getting the guy (or guys). We can see why. We'll find out if that changes when The Night Shift returns to NBC this summer!

Lela Loren From Power goes toe-to-toe with Omari Hardwick as Ghost on Starz's hottest show as Angie Valdes, and it feels far too long since we've last seen their wickedly sexy dance. It all comes back this June!

Kristen Connolly From Zoo thrills us every summer as Jamie Campbell, and now we're supposed to believe she's aged over a decade since we last saw her on the CBS hit show. That's going to be hard to swallow, but we can't see where Connolly takes her wild character next!

Hannah John-Kamen From Killjoys made her second appearance in Black Mirror this past year, also popped up on the biggest TV show of them all, will appear in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp movie and will do double duty with those gorgeous flashing eyes on Killjoys this summer. Katie Stevens from The Bold Type coming to Freeform this July isn't Faking It anymore, that's for sure! She is still our American Idol, and her talent grows with every role she takes. At the ATX Festival this year, fans couldn't get enough of her!

Jennifer Finnigan From Salvation got the short-ish end of the stick on Tyrant because she was a woman. On Salvation premiering in July on CBS, she'll have an important role as Grace Barrows. Arielle Kebbel From Midnight, Texas is an ATX Festival ambassador (Hot!), works harder than anyone we can think of with appearances on multiple shows and in movies and is friendly and kind. She pops up on so many of our favorite shows and TV movies, and we hope the NBC show is a hit so she sticks around on a weekly basis. She's a living doll, we tell you!

Lisa Edelstein From Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce returns to Bravo as Abby McCarthy sometime in July, and she's sure to bring all of the emotions with her. While we fell hard for Edelstein as Lisa Cuddy on House, the lighter side she gets to play on GG2D will be missed when the series retires after the summer run!

Jessica Biel From The Sinner is returning to TV for a deep exploration of a troubled mind, and taking on the role is kind of sexy in itself. We're excited to see her plow into a character in more detail again, as it's been long since 7th Heaven, and that was kids' stuff. The USA series premieres in August.
