Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 1 Report Card: Best Songs, Best 'Ships, and Craziest Characters!

at .  Updated at .

Rebecca didn’t move to West Covina for Josh, she just needed a change…

Yeah, we never bought it either.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend came out swinging back in October and never let up for one second, week after week delivering laughs and making us think.

Tackling issues in sexuality, mental illness, feminism, family dysfunction, and extramarital affairs - to name just a few - the series dared to get down to the nitty-gritty and show viewers unconventional stories that aren’t always shown on network television.

Adding a special kind of pizzazz to dark topics, the series blended serious subjects with their own unique blend of musical comedy.

Rachel Bloom, the show’s co-creator and star, took home both a Golden Globe and a Critic’s Choice Award for her portrayal of the series' titular character, proving to the many networks that passed on the series how wrong they were.

Despite the show’s small audience, The CW knows a good thing when it sees it. They renewed the series for a second season; one that we know will be just an incredible as its first.

So what did we love and hate about Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 1? Read on to see our report card!

1. Best Overall Song - Sexy Gettin' Ready Song

Despite an entire season of incredible musical numbers from the cast and crew, we're still most in love with the song that put the series on our radar to begin with. It's got a great hook, the lyrics are brilliant, and body rolls ARE really hard! We're glad that Rachel Bloom understands every awful nuance of getting ready for a night out!

2. Most Influencial Story Arc - Darryl is Bi-Sexual

While gay characters are becoming more and more common on television, bi-sexual ones are still rare. Darryl Whitefeather's realization that he liked ladies AND guys was an incredible story that impressed critics and fans, and also gained quite a bit of attention from the LGBTQ community. Told with complete honesty and realism, but still keeping true to the show's comedy roots, Darryl's journey as a bi-sexual has been handled with amazing sensitivity and heart. Pete Gardner is even being championed by fans and critics on social media for an Emmy nomination thanks to this excellent storyline.

3. Characters Who Most Deserve Dental - Dream Ghosts

They must have recieved some dental insurance by now, right? Ricki Lake, Amber Riley, and Michael Hyatt brought their A-game as the "Dream Ghosts," taking Rebecca, and others flying to New York, on a journey through their subconsciences. The job is tough, which is all the more reason they should be allowed to care for their sparkling smiles!

4. Story We Thought Would Come Back - Rebecca Sells the Garfinkle Ring

Rebecca wanted the family heirloom for years. After her mother finally passed it on to her, she quickly pawned it to get money for a trip to Hawaii (to stalk Josh Chan.) We thought for sure it would reappear! There's still time for the ring to find its way back onto Rebecca's finger. (Maybe one of her suitors will buy it back for her!)

5. Best Friendship - Rebecca and Paula

Paula loves Rebecca like she was her own daughter. She treats Rebecca like a tiny bear cub, protecting her at all costs from danger. Paula wants what is best for Rebecca even though sometimes it isn't actually GOOD for her. Regardless of their issues, these BFF's can't help but love each other. Their relationship is the real romance of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

6. Best Explicit Song - I'm a Good Person

Because Crazy Ex-Girlfriend airs on network television, at 8/7c, the writers can't always show EXACTLY what they want in their songs. Lucky for viewers, some songs with more explicit lyrics get released after the episode airs. The best explicit version is by far, "I'm a Good Person!" with additional lyrics such as, "I'll c-m my good right into your face," and "Doctors without Borders don't have s--t on me!" Some songs don't benefit from more colorful language... this one does.

7. Best 'Ship - WhiteJoshFeather

Team Josh, Team Greg, Team...who cares! We're all about WhiteJoshFeather! When Darryl and White Josh surprised us all by being the most stable and romantic relationship on the series, we couldn't have been happier. They're easily showing off what it means to be a good boyfriend - we just hope Josh and Greg are taking notes.

8. 'Ship We Wish Had Worked Out - Grebecca

They ruined everything. Greg and Rebecca seem to be a match made in heaven - they just can't get past their own self-loathing and destructive tendencies. And it broke the hearts of Grebecca fans everywhere. There's still hope for these two, who share a love of musical moments and weird fires. Anyone can be redeemed, right?

9. Character Who Got What They Deserved - Josh Chan

Josh asked Rebecca to keep their teenage romance a secret. He lied to Valencia about his feelings for his ex. He let jealousy get in the way of his friendship with Greg. He strung Valencia along for 15 years, knowing that she wasn't who he wanted to be with. Despite Josh's kindness, and his giving heart, he made some serious missteps. And now that he finally knows how intense Rebecca is, we're thinking he got exactly what he deserved.

10. #RealTalk Song - Women Gotta Stick Together

Valencia sang real truth with this number about sisterhood, uncovering every game that women play in their friendships with one another. Females helping females for the greater good, indeed.

11. Best Minor Character - Father Brah

Rene Gube became a fan favorite the second Father Brah appeared on screen. A priest who's also the ultimate bro? What's not wonderful about that? Father Brah is West Covina's go-to guy for advice, dropping hard truth bombs everywhere he goes and breaking a sweat on the basketball court while he does it.

12. Best Minor Minor Character - Grocery Clerk with Half an Eyelid

We really thought Ben Siemon's 'Grocery Clerk with Half an Eyelid' would be a one-off joke. Thank the TV gods, it wasn't! Brody (the character's real name), made his triumphant return as a member of a grocery store love-triangle and a serious ladies man. Will Rebecca become his next bedpost notch? We'll have to wait for Season 2 to find out!

13. Character Who Needs to Be Redeemed Most - Greg

Many Crazy Ex fans fell in love with Greg early on, a sad bartender with big dreams and a genuinely kind heart. Greg's biggest problem? His distrust of others, his drinking, and his own self-hate. He had a sweet romance with Heather but never lost love for Rebecca. When she finally chose him, he ruined it all by doubting himself. What's next for Greg? We hope he can sober up and get some confidence.

14. Best Self-Awareness Song - You Stupid Bitch

Rebecca knows that she's not perfect and she knows that she has issues. This song perfectly encapsulated Rebecca's worser traits, and her total self-awareness of what she needs to do to be a better person. It also gave Rachel Bloom a chance to show off her amazing voice.

15. Moment We Can't Believe Got Past the Censors - Greg Smashes Rebecca's Butterfly

We know what's REALLY happening in this GIF and it's not "smashing butterflies." There are countless shots during "Oh My God, I Think I Like You," that left us wide-eyed and shocked that they made it past the censors!

16. Surprisingly Inspirational Song - Face Your Fears

This song about facing your fears head on could easily be the strangest 'pump you up' anthem for anyone getting ready for a big event. But with it's inspirational words, the song makes you feel like you can do anything...including running with scissors!

17. Most Underused Character - Heather

Remember when Heather was writing a paper about Rebecca's mental health? And when she dated Greg? Heather was scaled back dramatically in the second half of the first season and her abscence was definitely felt. We hope that she's beefed up a bit next season. Heather has the potential to be the biggest voice of reason amongst a crazy cast of characters.

18. Song That Made Us LOL - I Gave You a UTI

In what was perhaps the sweetest and most well-adjusted moment between Greg and Rebecca, they danced around her living room while he sang about his penis nearly killing her. With lyrics like, "That bladder inflammation is my little gift to you, yeah sometimes chicks need medication after what I put them through," we couldn't help but pee our pants with laughter! (No UTI's though, folks. Don't worry!)

19. Catchiest Song - I Have Friends

Rebecca's friendly roll-call became a theme heard repeatedly behind stories all throughout the first season. Each time we heard it, we couldn't help but sing along. Objectively, we can say that Rebecca has all the friends.

20. Best Celebrity Cameo - BJ Novak

Thanks to Rebecca's uncovering the huge water crisis facing SoCal, BJ Novak's ecstacy factory will most likely be shutting down forever. Sorry BJ!

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Quotes

Rebecca: Where are you from again?
Josh: West Covina, California. 91791!
Rebecca: West Covina, I remember that. That's near the beach, right?
Josh: Yeah, only two hours...well, four in traffic.

Dear God, I don't pray to you because I believe in science. But I don't know what to do. Give me guidance, please. Ah-men. A-men. Amen?
