Sammy is Barry's 16 year old son. He's drawn to the extravagant lifestyle at the palace and grows closer to his uncle. He's also gay and makes a connection during the wedding despite the dangers of the relationship.

Emma is a smart 11th grader. She's nervous about going to Abbudin for the wedding because she's aware of the countries violent history and her family's role in it.

Fauzi is Barry's childhood friend and journalist. He's a devout Muslim who believes in freedom and opposes the Al-Fayeed family regime.

Yusse is a top advisor to the President. He's forced to deal with the Al-Fayeed family and the more ruthless government members.

John works at the American Embassy. He's intrigued by Barry and believes the President's younger son could play a role in the country's future.

Abdul works security for the Al-Fayeed family as is tradition for men in his family. He's gay and must keep that part of his identity hidden. He becomes attracted to Sammy Al-Fayeed during the wedding.

Amira is the matriarch of the Al-Fayeed clan. She born in England and supported her husband throughout his rule. She has a troubled relationship with her son, Barry.
