Anna Deavere Smith played a key role on The West Wing for many years.
The Baltimore native was nominated for the 1993 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the play "Fires in the Mirror." She has also been nominated for two Tony Awards.
She has taught at Stanford and played a number of characters that work in the White House.
