Because of Labor Day, ABC is only airing four new episodes of All My Children next week. Expect these following developments to go down during these installments...
Fact meets fiction in an upcoming All My Children storyline.
The soap opera will air a 10-episode long dance marathon, headlined by Susan Lucci and Cameron Mathison, both of whom have appeared on Dancing with the Stars. Its plot basis will be to pull residents of Pine Vallery together in an effort to help Erica (Lucci) raise funds for starving kids in Africa.
According to the rules of the telethon, couples must maintain physical contact and never stop moving. Breaks will be rewarded to those that deliver major donations from viewers. Naturally, some sex and mayhem ensue.
“We’ve got characters making time for a five-minute quickie, there are fights in the ladies room, a little stalking, a possible murder. It’s fun!” said producer Julie Hanan Carruthers. Things also get a little goofy. “I promise you a chicken dance with full cast participation. You haven’t lived until you’ve seen Thorsten Kaye [Zach] doing the finger snap.”
The storyline will run from September 17-30.

Who says that soap operas feed the desire for mindless television?
All My Children is challenging that assertion with an ambitious storyline later this month.
While Susan Lucci's iconic character of Erica Kane has always represented the rich, pampered sector of society, the show's head writer says she's about to grow a social conscience.
On August 20, Erica will take her talk show to Kenya to bring attention to the starving children in that country.
“Erica has always been daytime’s Scarlett O’Hara - it’s why we adore her - and it was fun watching her thrive during the Me Generation,” head writer Chuck Pratt told TV Guide Magazine. “But now it’s time to get her into the real world.”
The character arc is inspired by real-life events:
Earlier this year, Lucci and General Hospital stars Tony Geary and Kelly Monaco went to Africa on behalf of the philanthropic organization Feed the Children.
In September, Lucci's character will raise funds for the Kenyan cause with a huge dance marathon. Said Pratt:
“It’s the most complicated, ambitious thing we’ve ever done.”
