Ahead on Damages: New Relationships, Love Interests

Damages is a legal thriller that focuses on suspense, murder, backstabbing, lies and deceit.

Love doesn't exactly play a major role on this FX drama.

But that may change a bit on season three, as Ebon Moss-Bachrach (pictured) has been cast as a love interest for Ellen Parsons. The actor has guest-starred on episodes of Medium and Fringe.

Meanwhile, look for Keith Carradine’s character to get involved with Glenn Close’s Patty, who saw her marriage fall apart last season.

It's a nice boune back for Carradine, who was recently killed off Dexter. Making love to Patty Hewes seems dangerous, but it's unlikely to result in death.

Damages Season Finale Preview

The second season finale of Damages airs tonight.

As usual, the legal drama has spun itself a web of intrigue and suspense, leaving viewers with a number of questions needing to be answered this evening:

Did Ellen really shoot Patty in that hotel room? What will to happen to Daniel Purcell now that he's confessed to murdering his wife? Will Wes take out Ellen?

Producers Todd Kessler and Daniel Zelman previewed tonight's installment with TV Guide, taking readers character-by-character, storyline-by-storyline...

Patty: Is there any way she can have a happy ending?
"Throughout the season, Patty has lost huge support systems in her life," Zelman said. "The idea is that Patty has sort of isolated herself to the point where all she has left is Ellen. The question is: Will Ellen betray her?"

Ms. Hewes

Ellen
: Does Ellen seek forgiveness or revenge?
"That's really what the finale is about for Ellen," Zelman said. "She gets to a place where she can make that decision. The question is: What is she going to decide? And where does she go from there?"

Daniel Purcell
: Is he going to jail?
"Our show is all about gray area, and what we found intriguing is that he thinks he [killed his wife], but it's more complicated than that," Zelman said. "The bad guys could have saved his wife, but they didn't. We really wanted to end his story on an interesting, complicated note."

Tom: How can Tom still have a soft spot for the woman that fired him?
"Tom's a loyalist, and at the end of the day, he's always going to try to protect Patty," Zelman said.

Damages Creator Teases "Major Upheaval" Between Patty and Ellen

As viewers learned two weeks ago, the person Ellen is holding at gunpoint is Damages is none other than Patty herself.

Needless to say, the tension between these two character is about to get severely ratcheted up.

So confirms co-creator Glenn Kessler, who plays FBI Agent Werner this season. He recently spoke to TV Guide about the remaining episodes on season two.

"There's gonna be some major, major upheaval in Patty's life, and Ellen has some coming in her life as well," Kessler said. "The ground is going to shift considerably. Many of the things we've proposed throughout the season certainly do get knotted up, and these women end the season on very different ground than they started."

Glenn Kesser

Throughout this season, viewers have seen Werner and his partner often interrupted by phone calls from the former's estranged wife. Kessler says this is far from a meaningless plot point.

"In [Wednesday's] episode, the audience gets some answers as to what Agent Werner is actually up to and what his situation with his wife really is. That event kind of blows up, and it totally sends the season in a new direction."

On Damages, we'd expect nothing less.

Damages Season Three Spoilers: The Future of Daniel Purcell

Halfway through the second season of Damages, it's been confirmed that a third season of the FX drama is on the way.

But will the Daniel Purcell case carry over until then?

Daniel Purcell

No, executive producer Todd Kessler. told Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello. But that doesn't mean the character - and William Hurt - will be written out entirely.

"Things are always open to change, but Season 2 wraps up much like Season 1 did," Kessler said. "[But] William Hurt's character has a very strong personal relationship with Patty - he's the father of her son. So his character remains vital and important to the lives of Patty and Michael Hughes. There's always a chance he will come back. It's schedule dependent."

Rose Byrne Previews Season Two of Damages

The New Ellen

Viewers tuning in to tonight's second season premiere of Damages will see a darker, more confident side to Ellen Parsons.

Who better to ask about this transformation than actress Rose Byrne? She recently spoke with TV Guide:

TVGuide.com: How dark a place is Ellen at these days?
Byrne: Oh she's in the depths of grief and trauma and rage and revenge.

TVGuide.com: Is there any reason why Ellen might not follow through with the FBI's sting? Does she have any empathy for Patty?
Byrne: No. The only question is, Who does she trust? I don't even think she trusts the FBI. She just wants to get done what she needs to get done.

TVGuide.com: Do you think that when Ellen eventually tracks down and comes face-to-face with Frobisher, she might bail on her revenge plan?
Byrne: It's interesting, I was talking to a trauma counselor about what happens if an avenger does actually meet [his target]. What usually happens is the person has kind of a meltdown, and they don't go through with any of their revenge plans. They see how weak and vulnerable and pathetic these people usually are. It's almost pity when [Ellen] finds this forlorn and hopeless man sitting there. But then she regrets [what she does next].

Fortunately for fans, though, executive producer Todd Kessler says viewers won't need to wait until the season finale to find out who this person is.

"It will be revealed before the end of the season who's sitting in the chair [opposite Ellen], but events unfold in very unexpected ways," he said to E! Online.

As for Ellen's love life: new man Wes (Timothy Olyphant) won't be what he initially seems.
