Background on Bishop: Peter-Centric Episode of Fringe Ahead

On February 4, Fringe goes on hiatus, as Fox feature the new show Past Life in a prime time slot for a few weeks.

But producer Akiva Goldsman is giving fans a reason to tune in when the mysterious series returns:

On April 1, Fringe will air an episode simply titled "Peter." As you can guess, it will open "a window into the mysteries of Peter that have been promised since the first season," Goldsman told Michael Ausiello this week. He added:

“It’s an episode that’s fundamentally about his relationship to Walter and the truth of where they are right now, which is pretty revelatory to the characters and hopefully the audience... questions about Peter’s identity and mortality go a long way towards being answered.”

As for developments in Peter/Olivia relationship? The producer has something to say about that, as well:

“The romantic elements of their relationship will come forward pretty soon. Like any courtship, it wanes, and then it comes back again. So that’s going to make another move forward [on February 4], and then we’ll keep addressing it throughout the season.”

Fringe airs "The Bishop Revival" tonight. We'll review it in detail soon after it concludes.

Fringe Season Finale to Feature William vs. Walter Face-Off

Ding! Ding!

On the Fringe season finale, fans will get a glimpse at showdown they've been waiting for: Leonard Nimoy will return as William Bell and go toe-to-toe with Walter Bishop.

“William and Walter will finally face off in the finale,” producer Akiva Goldsman told Michael Ausiello. “These [characters] have so much that they’re bringing to bear. And Leonard and John are two fantastic actors.”

What other mythology-related developments does the Fringe team have in store over this season’s concluding episodes?

“We’re going to be looking very closely into Peter’s identity, Walter’s choices in the past, and Walter’s choices in the future,” said Goldsman. “And by the end of the season, we’re all going over to the other side.

“We’re trying to do the last two episodes as a singular event, a little bit more movie-like. It’s really one big story. We’re approaching it like a mini-feature. It’ll have a singular narrative drive."

The show will go on a multiple-week hiatus on February 11 in order to make room for Past Life.

It airs a new episode on Thursday, however, titled "The Biship Revival" and focused on mysterious deaths at a wedding.

Fringe Episode Stills "Edina City Limits"

The worst part about Christmas and New Year's? No new Fringe episodes until 2010.

But after the last champagne cork is popped, and the final hangover is alleviated, the Fox drama will return on January 14 with an installment titled "Edina City Limits."

During this hour, Walter, Peter and Olivia investigate a case in a small, secluded town. Once there, Olivia runs into an old friend and... well, we can't tell you everything about it.

But we can promise to review the episode, as always, and to publish a few photos from it below. Click on each for a larger version...

** Programming note: Fringe will actually air a never-seen-before season one episode on January 11.

** Another note: Sources say Fox has changed this episode title to "Johari Window."

Anna Torv: Fringe Storylines to "Explode"

As Fringe viewers know, the Peter Bishop we've grown to love is actually an alternate dimension version of the late Peter Bishop.

Of course, the character himself isn't aware of this fact... yet. But star Anna Torv says Peter will discover the truth as season two of the Fox drama proceeds.

"I think that’s what we're gearing to towards the end of the season... I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's going to explode at some point," she told MTV last week.

How will Walter and Peter react when this news comes out? Not well.

"It's going heartbreaking for Walter, but particularly for Peter because this year seeing him take an active interest in his father and an active interest in the investigations and he's really taken it on. For that to explode, or implode, is going to be devastating," she said. "But that’s what you want isn't it?"

It sure is. Fringe returns with new episodes in January.

Dr. William Bell: Scheduled for Final Fringe Episode

Fringe fans might wanna set their DVR for "Save Until I Delete" status for the December 10 episode.

That will most likely mark Leonard Nimoy's final appearance on the Fox hit, as he told TV Guide Magazine this week:

“I agreed to do three episodes; and we’ve filmed all three. Two have aired, so I will be on the air in one more. And that’s the extent of my commitment.”

William Bell

Nimoy last appeared as Dr. William Bell on the show's October 8 installment, popping up in a flashback scene that further explored Olivia's alternate reality.

He'll show up again on the episode "Grey Matters," as the series flashes back again, but to a different setting.

Observer Alert! Fringe Clip from "August"

As John Noble told us earlier this month, the role of The Observers will be featured more prominent as season two of Fringe rolls along.

The actor that plays Walter Bishop wasn't lying.

On Thursday's episode, "August," we'll meet an Observer. As shown in the clip below, so will a woman in Boston...

Alternative Versions of Olivia and Walter: Coming to Fringe?

Even if you hate the Yankees, you've gotta be thrilled they wrapped up the World Series last night.

As a result, Fox will air a new episode of Fringe tonight, as opposed to the seventh game of the Fall Classic. What can fans expect from this show over the rest of season two?

Sci-Fi Wire spoke to many involved with it and asked that question. Most prominently: will we ever meet an alternate reality version of Walter and Olivia?

"I have that question as well," said Anna Torv. "I'm hoping there is [an alternate Olivia]. But then I don't know... with the discovery of the fact that the Peter here is clearly not from here, then it makes sense that maybe the Walter over there is angry with the Walter here, and that's kind of the whole thing behind [the Pattern]. But I don't know."

Nice to she's as intrigued and confused as we are!

Broyles and Olivia

Joshua Jackson, meanwhile,  is convinced we'll meet another Walter:

"In keeping with the mythology of Fringe, yes, there is a Walternate, and there would be... an alternate mother as well, because, you know, that dimension is so close to our own, that with only minor differences it is identical."

One more question, please, Anna: will Olivia ever meet the Observer?

"There's an episode coming up that is called 'August,' and it sort of deals with the Observer. It's a really, really beautiful, beautiful episode, actually, so I won't say anything more, but that's actually very soon. Yeah."

John Noble Previews Upcoming Observer Action on Fringe

Fringe viewers won't just learn more about The Observer as season two moves ahead; they'll meet multiple Observers!

What else can fans expect in this department?

John Noble (Walter) spoke to Fancast about the storyline during a recent set visit.

The Observer Photo

“Somehow along the line, because of Walter’s experiences, because of things he’s done, he’s been able to make communications with The Observer, whatever The Observer is – I’ll leave that for you to think about.

"That will continue, and that will become far more dense as the season goes on, as to what the role of The Observers are, and also Walter’s relationship with them. In terms of the teaser as to why Walter’s photo is in [The Observer's briefcase]: my feeling is because he’s their only live contact. The rest - they should not and cannot make contact with other people. And if they do – at their peril, which will also be revealed.”

Assuming (and hoping!) the Yankees defeat the Phillies in Game Six of the World Series tomorrow night, Fringe will air a new episode on Thursday.

Fringe Casting Update: Sebastian Roché As The Leader

As previously reported, former General Hospital star Sebastian Roché has landed the role of a major villain on Fringe.

We can now confirm the dangerous character he'll be portraying: Roché will simply be known as The Leader, a mysterious humanoid soldier from another universe whose goal is to gather information about Olivia - and, possibly, start a war.

That can't be good.

Roché was recently seen on the short-lived CW series The Beautiful Life and on the previous season of 24.

Fringe Episode Stills from "Earthling"

On the upcoming episode of Fringe, which airs November 5, the Division takes on a confounding case: human beings have inexplicably disintegrated into ash.

The investigation provides an in-depth look into the past of Phillip Broyles, and also leads the team to consider the possibility of foreign fringe science.

Check out a few pics from "Earthling" below and remember to visit TV Fanatic soon after the episode ends for a recap and review...
