Will it finally happen on the 100th episode of How I Met Your Mother? Will viewers finally meet the future mother of Ted's kids?

Whether or not her identity is revealed during that half-hour, producer Craig Thomas told Entertainment Weekly "it’ll be the closest Ted’s ever come to [discovering who she is]. He’s getting a step closer every episode this season, and episode 100 [we] kind of go bananas with it.”

Thomas won’t confirm that actually takes place, but did say he and fellow producer Carter Bays “are spending a lot of time trying to cast the female role in Ted’s story for episode 100.”

As for the installment's other major storyline, Neil Patrick Harris fans will be delighted.

“There will be a huge Barney story culminating in an enormous musical number that we’re going to spend way too much of Twentieth Television’s money on,” Thomas said. “Fans of Neil’s performance at the Emmys will enjoy the ending of the episode. It’s not a musical episode, but all of a sudden it becomes one. It’ll probably be one of the craziest things we’ve ever done on the show.”

Barney and Robin have just gotten together on How I Met Your Mother.

The sitcom's season premiere this week will focus on their coming out party as a couple.

But show creator Carter Bays has bad news already for fans of this couple: their relationship won't have a happy ending. That's just one snippet of what Bays told TV Guide in a recent intervew. Here are a few others:

On Barney and Robin: Robin's suddenly in the position of being the expert on relationships, which she certainly hasn't been historically. But she's Lily compared to Barney. It's not going to be easy for them. It's not going to be happily ever after. Barney has to change his lifestyle to fit into the couples' world. I think he sees himself as the Luke Skywalker of single people who's getting seduced by the Darth Vader of relationships.

On The Bro Code: The Bro Code will be expanded upon. There's going to be another book in addition to the Bro Code that we're going to unveil at some point. It's Barney's Playbook. It's his picking-up-girls playbook.

On Ted: Life's going to be a little easier for him this year. Ted will be dating, but there are no big relationships coming up on the horizon for him. We've created this whole new exciting element of [narrowing the mother to] one of the 3,200 enrolled in the grad department at Columbia. I can't say whether we'll meet the mother, but she'll be a part of the show in a way she hasn't before.
