Changes Coming to Season Three of In Plain Sight

Season two of In Plain Sight ends tomorrow night.

As previously reported, the show has already been picked up for a third season.

When the show does return, however, it will look a bit different. For starters, Lesley Ann Warren (the mother of Mary McCormack's character) and Todd Williams (detective Bobby Dershowitz) have been dropped as series regulars.

Moreover, executive producer and creator David Maples actually won't be running In Plain Sight when it comes back for season three. Reportedly, he clashed with USA's president of original programming, Jeff Wachtel.

In Her Sight

In separate interviews with E! News, both of these individuals spoke about the future of the hit show:

Maples: "I think they probably want the show to be more procedural, spend more time with witness protection and less time with Mary's personal life. We're talking a matter of balance - what's the dominant flavor of the show going to be?"

Wachtel: "What's the network [motto]? 'Characters welcome.' Story based in the characters. I don't think anyone has ever accused Monk of being plot-driven. I think story matters. At no point was this supposed to become a character procedural, and I'll say officially that all great shows are a balance between characters and story."

In Plain Sight Producer Hypes Season Finale "Event"

Events that take place on the In Plain Sight season finale has been called "awful, heartbreaking and unexpected."

Is this a valid description of the show's August 9 episode?

Sort of, producer David Maples told E! News. He said:

"The In Plain Sight finale is an event that unfolds over two episodes, and a lot of things transpire with our cast, work-wise and with personal relationships. Things are left up in the air with the show, but it's not like the Moldovan army comes in and starts spraying bullets and we don't know who's alive and who's dead. It's not quite that kind of a cliffhanger."

In Plain Sight: Scoops and Spoilers Galore!

The cast and crew of In Plain Sight gathered at the Los Angeles Times' Envelope Emmy screening series this week.

And fans of the USA hit will be very interested in what they had to say. According to E! Online, the following scoops were discussed...

Hello, Mary's sister? Laura Prepon - who guest-starred on How I Met Your Mother this season - will be introduced as Lauren on the next new episode.

She shows up with a letter from Mary's father. Does this mean Lauren is Mary's sister? Said Executive Producer David Maple:

"We will not see [Lauren] again this season, but that doesn't mean that she doesn't somehow come into play perhaps in some way."

What about Mary's love life? "Raph [Cristián de la Fuente] and I definitely give our love another chance, so we get a lot closer this season than last," said star Mary McCormack.

Does that mean nothing is brewing between Shannon and Det. Dershowitz?

"Coming into season two, Bobby D. is moving closer and closer to Mary's inner circle," said actor Todd Williams. "They still have a working relationship, but there is definitely a growing relationship."

Tissues needed for the season finale? Yes, according to Lesley Ann Warren: "Something really awful happens to Mary, and we all have to rally around her. It's emotionally big and catastrophic in its possibilities."

Added Nichole Hiltz: "Our finale carries out over two episodes. It's a heartbreaking finale, [and] it's unexpected."
