First Look at Elizabeth Banks on Modern Family

We didn't think it was possible for Modern Family to get any better.

But the ABC sitcom continues to prove us wrong each week, and will do so again on November 18.

One of our favorite actresses, Elizabeth Banks, guest stars on that date's episode, playing an old friend of Mitchell and Cameron's named Sal.

“We haven’t seen Sal in a while because we’ve been so busy with the baby,” Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell) told theTVaddict.com, “We decide to go out for a night of drinking together and she just kind of crumbles into this heaping mess of drunken nausea.”

We can see that, Jesse...

Ty Burrell Dishes on His Modern Family

Modern Family is one of the funniest new shows on TV.

It has a great cast, great jokes and even great guest stars lined up in Edward Norton and Elizabeth Banks.

In a recent interview with E! News, star Ty Burrell (incredibly hip dad, Phil) opened up about his character, as well as what's to come on the ABC sitcom. A few excerpts:

On Phil: "Phil is a dog who can talk. He's this well-intentioned guy, superearnest. His tail is always wagging when anyone comes home as if he thought they were never going to come back. And yet at the same time, that tail is knocking crap off the tables, you know?"

As Phil

On bonding with his fake kids: "Claire (Julie Bowen) and I are [wondering] if any of our kids is the best of anything, so Phil tries to commit to making Luke the best at something... Phil is going to spend 10,000 hours with Luke playing baseball until he's a master. It lasts for, I think, less than an hour."

On family time: "We're doing more with the whole family that's really fun, and it's something we're discovering as we go. We've got a couple episodes in which Shelley Long guest stars as Mitch and Cam's mom. We have an episode coming up where Jay has the family over to watch a football game."

Modern Family airs on Wednesday nights. Catch up on its quotes now and set your DVR to a series recording for it. You'll thank us later.

More on Modern Family Guest Stars

Modern Family might be the most anticipated sitcom in years.

Critics - including those at TV Fanatic that have seen the pilot - are major fans of the upcoming ABC series, which debuts a week from today.

The regular cast is humorous enough, but the show has already announced a pair of major guest stars. The first, Edward Norton, will portray an anniversary present gone awry in an episode that focuses on Julie Bowen’s character of Claire.

“[She] is really bad at giving gifts. It’s her and Phil’s anniversary, so he gives her these amazing gifts and her gift is just terrible, so she feels the need to outdo him,” said producer Steven Levitan. “She brings in what she thinks is the lead guitarist and the lead vocalist from a famous band, but it turns out to be the bass player and all he can do is play bass lines. And he’s got a chip on his shoulder.

Modern Family Cast

Shelley Long, meanwhile, will appear on the sitcom as the matriarch of the crazy clan.

“She’s a woman, like her daughter played by me, who perhaps likes a party a little too much and is trying to clean up a few messes she’s made in the past,” Bowen said to TV Guide Magazine.

Added co-star Ty Burrell  (Phil):

“She’s supposed to be playing this fragile woman who is barely hanging on and Shelley plays that really beautifully. It’s different than other characters that I’ve seen her play. She does it wonderfully. I felt like I was learning a lot watching her.”

Seriously, Modern Family is hilarious. Go set a DVR series recording for it. We'll wait.

Elizabeth Banks Lands Recurring Role on Modern Family

Elizabeth Banks, who played JD's baby mama on Scrubs, is coming back to the small screen.

The movie star - best known for roles in The 40-Year Old Virgin, W and Zack and Miri Make A Porno - has signed on for a recurring role on ABC's upcoming fall sitcom, Modern Family.

The gorgeous, funny actress will portray Sal, a character described by executive producer Christopher Lloyd as "the fag hag" friend of gay couple Mitchell and Cameron.

"Sal is their old running buddy," executive producer Steven Levitan said. "Mitchell and Cameron decide they need a night out on the town, so they call her up."

Look for Banks to debut on the show in October.
