Private Practice Spoilers: Addison's Love Life, Pete's Flashback

Addison's married love interest, Noah, won't be back on Private Practice when the show returns October 1, not even to resolve that scandalous story line.

The reason for this, of course, is that Josh Hopkins, who played Noah, is on Cougar Town now, and thus occupied. But where does it leave Addie now?

According to reports, the Private Practice season premiere, which is excellent, does not spotlight Addison as the primary character (an emerging trend).

But when she does come onscreen, she positively shines. We suspect it won't be long until romantic fireworks resume with Addison and ... someone TBA.

The Season 3 Private Practice premiere is based around a Pete-centric flashback that shows how he joined the practice and got to know all the characters.

Particularly Violet. Word to the wise: Keep the tissues handy.

Private Practice Spoilers: More Flashbacks, Less Dell

With the third season premiere of Private Practice just three weeks away, more details of the much-anticipated, drama-packed episode are coming to light.

Here's a new wrinkle, courtesy of EW: There's a flashback.

The Season 3 premiere "flashes back to Oceanside’s pre-Addison days to show how Pete, Violet and the gang first met." According to reports, the show uses an editing technique to transition between past and present that is both original and effective.

The episode also features a funeral, two harrowing surgeries, and the revelation that we are going to be seeing less of Dell on Private Practice this season.

Chris Lowell’s episode order was reduced from 22 to a minimum of 13, because the hunky young actor wanted more freedom to pursue other projects.

No word on how the show plans on transitioning Chris Lowell out, or at least to the back burner, but try not to be too crushed by this news, ladies.

Private Practice Spoilers: The Baby is Missing

So we know Violet survives on Private Practice. Every single report and teaser from the set has confirmed this for about three months, and besides, like they were going to kill Amy Brenneman off the show. She is way too awesome. Come on.

But here are three things about about Season 3 premiere on Thursday, October 1 that we definitely did not see coming but TV Guide hints cryptically this afternoon ...

  • The episode also includes a funeral.
  • Violet may be alive, but she is in bad shape.
  • Her baby boy, father still unknown, is missing.

How is this all connected? What does it mean for the future of the little guy and his mom? We'll have to wait and find out when the Grey's Anatomy spinoff returns.

Push, Violet!

Private Practice Spoilers: Does Violet Live or Die?

To carry eager fans through until next month's season opener, Entertainment Weekly has some Private Practice spoilers and casting notes in its Q&A today.

Here's what EW has unearthed about one character's possible return, along with the fate of Violet, who was left on the floor, about to be hacked open ...

On Violet's fate after the Private Practice Season 2 finale cliffhanger:

  1. Violet lives.
  2. Approximately 20 minutes will have lapsed between the last frame of the gripping season finale and the first frame of the new season premiere.

On the return of Josh Hopkins' Noah as Addison's love interest:

  1. It's not happening, as Josh is on Cougar Town now.
  2. Amanda Detmer will be back as Noah's wife, though.

Do Violet and Her Baby Live on Private Practice?

On the Season 2 finale of Private Practice, Violet (Amy Brenneman) was given a paralyzing drug by a mentally unstable patient, who planned to cut Violet's baby out of her womb.

So does the Private Practice shrink survive?

Brenneman is back to work, but that didn't stop executive producer / creator Shonda Rhimes from joking, "Maybe she's a ghost," but the real answer is a resounding, "Yes."

"We are going to pick up about 20 minutes from where we left off," Rhimes said.

"The most interesting thing about putting someone in that position is to watch them get out of it. So, we are reintroduced to the [Private Practice] world in a high-stakes way."

That said, ET asked Amy who is Violet's baby daddy?

Could it be Pete (Tim Daly) or Sheldon (Brian Benben)?

Brenneman teases, "I just found out and I am not saying."

Messed Up Private Practice Finale Scene

As for the real-life case where a baby was allegedly cut out of its mom's womb in Massachusetts in July, Brenneman says, "That copycat stuff freaks me out."

"I knew of another case that predated our show. I think people were very affected by the season finale. It was a very powerful mojo to put out there."

In other Private Practice news, Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) will cross over from Grey's Anatomy, visiting the Oceanside Wellness Center to learn a new medical procedure.

The visit will take place in the third episode of the Private Practice season.

Private Practice returns for its third season on Thursday, October 1 at 10 p.m.

Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice to Cross Over ... Again!

Shonda Rhimes is anti-spoilers, but with a bus full of reporters visiting the set, she revealed a little scoop on the upcoming season: Grey's Anatomy star Chandra Wilson will cross over to the alternate Shonda world of Private Practice in the season's third episode.

Miranda Bailey will travel to L.A. to visit her former colleague Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) and perform a "very interesting" medical procedure, Rhimes says.

Bailey, of course, has no intention of being shy about sharing her opinions about the events at Oceanside Wellness, the creator and producer of both shows adds.

Boss Bailey

The crossover of Chandra Wilson to Private Practice will continue the relatively fluid movement of characters between Grey's Anatomy and its spinoff Private Practice, which debuted in 2007.

Walsh has appeared on episodes of Grey's Anatomy the past two seasons, after leaving at the end of its third. This past season Patrick Dempsey's Derek Shepherd guest starred on Private Practice, as Taye Diggs and Audra McDonald did the reverse.

The new season of Private Practice will pick up only a few minutes after last season's finale, which ended with off-her-meds patient Katie (Amanda Foreman) injecting Violet (Amy Brenneman) with paralyzing drugs and about to steal her baby.

The season premiere will deal with the immediate aftermath, while episode two will jump ahead a few weeks, Amy Brenneman says. We can't wait to see who rescues Violet.

Private Practice Spoilers: Love Triangles on Tap

What do we know about Season Three of Private Practice?

Not too much so far, but things are coming together.

Private Practice cast members have just finished shooting the first episode of the new season, according to KaDee Strickland (Dr. Charlotte King), who spilled to E! Online about some of the Grey's Anatomy spinoff's brewing romantic triangles:

Charlotte and Cooper

"I think I'm perfectly well-placed with Cooper. Others are going to have more of a triangle than me and Violet," she said of Charlotte and Paul Adelstein's character.

She also said the cliffhangers have exciting resolutions:

"It's very shocking. The audience is going to be on their toes the whole time. The twists and turns are unexpected," Strickland teased.

What do you make of these Private Practice spoilers?

KaDee Strickland Previews Season 3 of Private Practice

After filming the first episode of the new season of Private Practice, KaDee Strickland (Dr. Charlotte King), is giving the kind of diagnosis we would expect from her:

“It is action, honey. Get ready, because it is not a game!”

KaDee Strickland, who plays the ABC medical drama’s twangy, sarcastic and at times hard-outside, soft--inside doctor, says the talented cast just wrapped the debut.

The events pick up right where last season’s tense finale left off.

To sum up, a conflicted Addison (Kate Walsh) is on the verge of an affair with the married Noah and a pregnant, paralyzed Violet (Amy Brenneman) is terrifyingly in the clutches of and at the mercy of a psychotic patient planning to abduct her unborn baby.

Does she know who will rescue Violet? If so Strickland is mum.

But we won't want to miss it, she says.

“I don’t think anybody’s gonna get up to grab a beer during the show,” KaDee Strickland told TV Guide. “The stakes that ended the last season were so high, and the resolve and the payoff is worth every penny. I love what they’ve done with Kate."

"I love what they’ve done with everybody that’s in this episode.”

KaDee also thinks her Private Practice character will be more prominent.

“[The writers] are really good at fusing light and shade. They never let her get too kind, so we’ll see if they do. I mean, she is an evolving little flower now.”

Yes. Yes she is.

While she’s determined to stay tight-lipped on details about the third season’s direction, “We’ll be more in the personal lives of the main characters,” she said.

“You get to know who these people really are, as well as see exciting cases that are very important, about health care and things important to Americans.”

Private Practice Spoilers: Who Rescues Violet?

For the longest time, we were asking who knocked up Violet? We still don't know the answer to that, of course, but we've moved on to asking who rescues Violet.

When the second season of Private Practice concluded, pregnant Violet was in a compromising position, sedated and about to be cut open on her living room floor.

Sick, but true.

Wondering who (if anyone) will save Violet from her non-elective C-section on Private Practice? Will Cooper return to Violet Turner's abode? Or will Pete be the hero?

"The only thing I will say is that, knowing Shonda Rhimes, whatever is the least convenient thing to happen will happen," Tim Daly, who plays Pete, told TV Guide.

"She always finds a way of making it very difficult on everybody, and I like that about working with her - even if I sometimes disagree with the direction."

Tim Daly Discusses Private Practice, Character Development

Private Practice prescribed growth for Pete Wilder in Season Two.

Originally introduced as a cocky bad boy for Addy to lust after, Tim Daly's character has since been revealed to have a noble past with Doctors Without Borders.

What's more, when a fling with Violet Turner (Amy Brenneman) caught fire and resulted in her pregnancy, Pete even stepped up to profess his paternal leanings.

Tim Daly chatted with TV Guide this week, reflecting on his character's evolution, as well as wish for Wilder days ahead when the series returns in September.

Q: When we spoke at the start of Season Two, you had certain hopes for Pete's trajectory. How satisfied were you with how things actually played out?

Tim Daly: I was pretty happy. He remains rather mysterious, and he seems to be vacillating between being a lothario and someone who wants to have a more meaningful relationship.

We left him making a strong play for Violet, and in a very earnest way. I'm not sure where he's going to wind up, but... I'm still interested in him. It's funny - I like the character a lot, and usually when I like someone I wish them smooth sailing. But as an actor I hope that Season 3 offers nothing but trouble for Pete. It's so much more fun when you have something going through a lot of s--t.

Q: Did you fear that a Pete-Violet hook-up would be a tough sell?

Tim Daly: You know, I didn't really think of it that way. I thought that Pete and Violet were oddly good together ...

Q: Which we quickly saw. But the way they were abruptly thrown together, sometimes that can backfire on a story.

Tim Daly: Yeah, but I like working with Amy [Brenneman] so much, I thought we should just let it rip and see what happens. So far, it's good. Again, relationships on television played out over a long period of time are only good when there are tons of problems, and clearly they have some coming up. I also feel there's an inevitability to Pete and Addison at some point getting together. So many fans continue to reference that to me, so... we'll see.
