Allison Mack Interview: What's Next for Chloe on Smallville?

In a new interview with TV Guide, Allison Mack doesn't waste any time delivering some major Smallville spoilers. To wit:

Oliver and Chloe will develop a major spark over the next few weeks.

How so? And in what way will this bond be different from what we've seen between Lois and Clark? Read the full interview now and check out a few excerpts from it below:

On Oliver and Chloe: It's a really interesting dynamic because both are aware that the most important thing is their mission in the world, not their relationships. They have a very strained and secretive relationship, which is similar to Clark and Lois, but they don't have the softness or the romance that Clark and Lois have.

Chloe Conversation

Allison Mack and guest star Carlo Marks in a scene from "Warrior."

On Clark and Chloe: They're working towards the same mission, they have the same ideals, but their journey, their path and their choices to actualize those missions are very different... which puts a really interesting divide between the two characters and allows them some great dramatic tension.

On Chloe's mindset for the rest of the season: I think Chloe is really exploring that question, "Do the ends justify the means?" Because I think Chloe is at a place right now that she sees how bad the world is and sees the need for some really dramatic and drastic decisions.

She's struggling to decide whether or not what she needs to sacrifice is worth what she needs to save.

Smallville Producers Preview Two-Hour Episode

As almost all Smallville fans know by now, the series airs its first two-hour episode this Friday night.

It will feature the Justice Society of America, Justice Society of America, as Chloe has a runin with a former member,  Icicle, and chaos ensues from there.

Clark and his burgeoning Justice League soon realize they aren't the only ones out to save the world, as producer Brian Peterson previews "Absolute Justice" and says:

“None of our characters knew that a society [of heroes] had existed before them. They thought they were the pioneers.”

Below, check out a clip from this special episode:

Meanwhile, comic book writer Geoff Johns (who wrote the episode) told TV Guide Magazine:

“The JSA has been disbanded for quite some time, for various reasons that are uncovered in the episode. Now someone is targeting them, so Clark and his team of heroes [have to] get involved.”

Expect this installment to feature:

  • Serious Lois meddling;
  • The return of Martian Manhunter;
  • The appearance of villains such as Checkmate and Amanda Waller.

Justin Hartley Speaks on Smallville Return, Character

Finally.

After weeks off the air, Smallville airs a new episode this Friday. It's titled "Disciple" and it focuses on Oliver's reunion with a face from his dark past.

In an interview with TV Guide Magazine, Justin Hartley talks about what's ahead on The CW drama, starting with The Green Arrow's interactions with a former mentor this week...

On The Dark Archer: He’s this guy from his past, and he’s sort of looking for Ollie to do something for him that he’s not cool with anymore and Oliver is like ‘Yeah, no.’ Then, at one point, arrows are flying everywhere. Lois gets hit. Chloe gets hit.

On Oliver's charming side: I have always said let this guy be f---ed up, let him have flaws. At least he knows that about himself. I think part of that downward spiral [he was earlier this season] was him second-guessing himself.

Instead of asking questions, he just said ‘Well, this must be who I am then. I must be a loser.’ But by facing his demons, literally someone face-to-face from his past—and coming out on top—that kind of reinforces the fact that he’s not a loser. He doesn’t have to be that guy.

From Disciple

On Amanda Waller/Checkmate: Right now, he’s privy to all of it and he’s on the quest to figure out what they’re up to and put an end to all of it. I think he and Clark are going to start working together on that, which is cool.

Smallville Likely To Be Renewed for Season 10

With a sixth season all but locked down for Supernatural, CW president Dawn Ostroff is focusing on another network mainstay.

What are the chances that Smallville returns for a 10th season?

“I’m really pleased with the show,” she said at the TV Critics Winter Press Tour. “Creatively, I think they’ve done a great job. And the ratings are [strong] on Friday night... It’s not easy in season 9 to keep a show fresh. And you know what I think? The fans have really liked the show this season."

Clark

So, can fans look forward to at least one more year?

“I don’t know which way we’ll go,” she said, but added a hint of optimism: "If you would’ve asked me [earlier whether it would end this season] I would’ve said, ‘Oh, probably.’ But I can’t say that now.”

Smallville returns on January 22 with a new installment.

Smallville Movie Scoop: Death Leads to Justice Society of America Appearance

On February 5, Smallville will air "Absolute Justice."

This two-hour event is receiving a great deal of hype - and deservedly so. It will introduce Clark to the Justice Society of America, mainly represented by Hawkman (Michael Shanks), Dr. Fate (Brent Stait) and Stargirl (Britt Irvin).

What actually prompts this much-ballyhooed meeting?

“I can’t say too much about this, but there is a death that occurs at the beginning of the episode,” Irvin told Fancast.com. “And that brings [the JSA] together with Clark and his team.”

Doctor Fate and Stargirl

Not all characters get along well at first, Irvin added, saying: “Stargirl has a bit of friction with Green Arrow at the beginning, as does Hawkman."

The actress, who has a recurring role on V as Haley Stark, concluded by emphasizing her character's "special connection" with Clark. How come?

"Because he reminds her a lot of her mentor,” she said, remaining mum on that mentor's identity and stating that Stargirl realizes “[Clark is] very important for mankind.”

Consider us properly teased, Britt. We can't wait for this unique episode.

Smallville Producer Previews 2010 Storylines... and Beyond?

Will there be a 10th season of Smallville?

What should fans expect on this show when it returns with new episodes in January?

Producer Brian Peterson spoke with TV Guide Magazine late last week and shared a few insights into upcoming series storylines. Warning, a few Smallville spoilers are ahead...

On the upcoming, two-hour episode: "Geoff Johns is writing the big Justice Society of America episode for us, and when we got into it, we realized that is so much bigger than just one episode. We have basically turned it into a mini-movie. And from the footage that is coming in, it looks as good if not better than any hero movie that has been out in the last two years."

Pandora Pic

On Zod's future: "Zod has had plans that will be quickly unveiled... we will see Zod using all of his Kryptonian intuition and manipulation skills to basically achieve his quest of getting powers. He will do anything and use anyone along the way."

On a likely 10th season: "Our plan right now is a reflection over the 9 years and taking him out of the darkness that we’ve had, with him in the black suit and where he went after Jimmy’s death, and taking him to a place of balancing his Kryptonian side and his human side - which he’s not doing perfectly this year.

"It would be him learning how to be Clark Kent and the entity that will be known as Superman."

In other words: it would be awesome!

Michael Shanks as Hawkman: Smallville Interview, First Look

On February 5, The CW will air a special two-hour episode of Smallville, on that focuses on the Justice Society.

Michael Shanks will play a key role on the anticipated installment, appearing as the character of Hawkman. He spoke to TV Guide Magazine this week about the gig. A few excerpts:

On Hawkman's background: When we first meet Carter Hall he’s in his museum. We’ll learn he’s a reincarnated prince from a thousand years ago. There is a reference to The Justice Society’s time in the ‘70s, but we have since disbanded.

Michael Shanks as Hawkman

On advice for Clark: There’s a reference given to him flying, but it’s more of a metaphor to his own personal growth. Clark and his friends are figuring out what their destinies will be, so there is a ripe opportunity for the Justice Society who had been there done that to offer some tough love teaching.

On his relationship with Chloe: She is a bit of an enigma to him. To have this pretty, smart blonde girl walking around among all these superheroes is an anomaly. Carter doesn’t know what to make of her.

Smallville Producer Responds to Chloe Critique

Has Chloe been underused on Smallville this season?

Many fans of The CW series believe so. TV Guide Magazine took this question, and others, to executive producer Brian Peterson. Here's what he had to say:

On Chloe's season nine role: She has stepped out of the sidekick shadows and she has owned Watchtower and she is taking it upon herself while Clark is busy with Kandorians and Lois and being the Blur. She’s started to create the fledgling group that will eventually become the Justice League. So she’s basically in some ways running the show behind the scenes.

Chloe Sullivan Picture

On Chloe as... Mary Magdalene?!? We really see Chloe as the Mary Magdalene to Clark’s Christ. She may not have romance now, she may not have romance in the future, but how she loves him and the way she helps him grow as a character is paramount to him becoming Superman. And that is never going to change.

On the return of Serinda Swan: We are really excited about that. She’s coming back in an episode called “Warrior,” about Warrior Angel and that is a very Chloe-centric episode. It’s a great light spot in a kind of very heavy [storyline] run for us. It’s going to happen in the winter.

In other exciting Smallville news, fans can look forward to a two-hour movie event in January.

Will Clark Kent Become Superman This Season on Smallville?

It's a simple, yet pressing question: Will Clark Kent finally become Superman this season on Smallvile?

A fan of The CW series posed this question to TV Guide Magazine; who, in turn, took it to producer Brian Peterson.

He said the black blur suit Clark has been donning this season was only meant to be a temporary bridge to the long-overdue Superman unveiling; which, yes, is currently being planned.

“Given the Clark Kent everyone knows from our show, it would come out of nowhere to have him automatically start wearing the [Superman] suit,” Peterson said, adding season nine might conclude with Clark building a new costume with more familiar colors.

A Smallville Embrace

As for Lois and Clark getting together, as the former dreamed at the start of this season? Look above, Smallville fans.

“What we teased in the premiere, we have all intentions of paying off for the fans this season," Peterson said.

Warning: Major Smallville Spoilers Ahead!

A new love interest for Chloe. New steps in the Clark/Lois relationship. A showdown with Zod and the arrival of Jor-El.

Indeed, there's A LOT to come on season nine of Smallville. Who better to ask about it than Executive Producer Kelly Souders? She previewed future storylines in a recent interview with TV Guide.

Who will romance Chloe? I'll give you this much: It's somebody who is very charming and it would be hard for anybody not to have a fire for.

Will we see more powers from Clark? He has so much other story going on, we don't see a lot of that for a little while, but it does come back into play. I can't quite [tease any powers] because we're breaking one of them as we speak and we're going back and forth on exactly how the power works, but I can say that it's a magnificent power.

Julian Sands as Jor-El

What about Clark and Lois as a couple? You get a little more insight, particularly into Lois. In the past, Clark was always hesitant to get into a relationship. He's finally met his match in Lois and I think she's even more hesitant in some ways than he is. The issues that she's grappling with romantically will start to emerge more clearly over this first half of the season.

What's in store for Zod? There's a little secret about Zod and the Kandorians: They're not exactly the way you think they are; that has a great deal to do with how the mythos would play out. In Episode 7, which is called "Kandor," a lot of their backstory comes to light and it sheds a huge light on them here presently.

As for Joe-El, Souders says to tune in for the episode titled "Kandor," from which the photo above is taken.

She also says there's a good chance Smallville returns for season 10, to which we respond: Hooray!!!
