Season Two, Revisited: Katey Sagal on Sons of Anarchy

If there's any justice in the televison awards world, Katey Sagal will be nominated for an Emmy for her work throughout season two of Sons of Anarchy.

As Gemma Teller Morrow, Sagal was the heart and soul of the FX series, whose second season run many critics consider to be one of the best in TV history.

A couple weeks after the incredible finale, the actress spoke at length to E! News about her character's past and future...

On Gemma's season two storyline: I was really looking forward to it, not the actual [gang rape] scene to shoot, but as an actor, I understood where the character was going, and I thought well that's a pretty interesting way to go with her. People are dimensional, people are not just one way so the opportunity to show that is always interesting.

On Gemma and Tara's new bond: The fact that Gemma at the end of the first season realizes she's not gonna to be the first girl, in terms of being close to her son, so Gemma being the smart woman that she is, she realizes it's better to join them. She's decided to contribute to the education of Tara, she's going to teach her how to be a woman in this world because it looks like she's here to stay. And Tara really went out on a limb for the club this season, she risked her job, she risked everything so Gemma admires that.

On Gemma and Jax: A season is probably a few weeks in story time, so I think it was a really rough few weeks in terms of intimacy for anybody with Gemma. She pulled away from everybody after the rape. As an actor, I miss being with Charlie [Hunnam]—I love playing with Charlie—so who knows, maybe my husband will write stuff for me and Charlie.

On her response to Abel's kidnapping: I think Gemma's would response would be horrified, and she would be proactive in righting the wrong. She's not somebody who sits on the sidelines, she takes action.

Sons of Anarchy Season 3 to Explore Jax and Tara Relationship

The incredible second season of Sons of Anarchy concluded this week.

But creator Kurt Sutter is already looking ahead to season three of this FX hit, as he spoke to TV Guide about what lies ahead for Jax and Tara concerning developments with baby Abel.

Read through our review of "Na Triobloidi" to find out what the heck we're talking about - and then check out Sutter's take on season three below:

"[I want] to explore what happens to a couple when they're faced with a tragedy like that. To be honest with you, I don't know where it's going to go. Does Tara blame herself? Does Tara blame Jax? Does Jax blame Tara? But that will be a very real dynamic in their relationship."

What did you think of this show's season finale?

Katey Sagal Speaks on Sons of Anarchy Rape, Singing Scenes

Katey Sagal has come a long way since Married... with Children.

The actress has become a dramatic stalwart, appearing in various episodes of Lost (as Locke's troubled ex, Helen) and as the matriarch of SAMCRO on Sons of Anarchy.

While the star doesn't reveal any major spoilers in a new interview, she does open up about her character's loyalty, singing voice, and of course, this season's traumatic rape scene.

A few excerpts from the interview:

On allegiances to Jax and Clay: Her allegiance is to everybody.  I mean, what she’s desperately fighting for, in my opinion, is to protect the whole system.  This is her life, the whole thing... I would imagine if she really had to choose... I would say her son.

On personal repercussions from the rape scene: It hung around for most of the season with Gemma, but the really super dark, emotional visits I had to take, I would say, it was a good month.  Not that I was walking around with it every moment of the day.

On singing for the show: I’ve sang two songs in the soundtrack of the show.  The first season, I sang Son of a Preacher Man.  And in this season, I’m the one singing Ruby Tuesday over the second episode. Hopefully I’ll get to sing one for the third season, too.

Maggie Siff: Education of Tara Knowles Ahead on Sons of Anarchy

As Tara Knowles on Sons of Anarchy, Maggie Siff has a lot ahead of her over the next few weeks.

Asked what's ahead for her character, the actress preview upcoming storylines to E! News by saing: "This season is the education of Tara Knowles."

What does that mean, exactly? During episode eight, for example, Jax and company get incarcerated. In response, Tara will mortgage her father's house for bail money, and show a fierce side when it comes to watching over Opie's kids.

Sons of Anarchy Creator Asks: What Kind of Man is Jax Teller?

Considering the important, albeit mysterious, status of Jax Heller on Sons of Anarchy, viewers wanna know more about this character.

In response to a question about him show creator Kurt Sutter told E! News that Jax is working out his identity. He added:

"I really wanted a leading man who was a mann but hadn't really decided what kind of man he was going to be yet," Sutter said, continuing with a pair of comparisons to iconic characters/shows: "He was more of a Shane than a Vic [speaking in The Shield terms], more of a Christopher than a Tony [speaking in The Sopranos terms].

The arc we'll explore (if we get to continue) is seeing what kind of man Jax Teller becomes, and the struggle, rather than Vic who clearly decided what kind of man he is and navigates through life with that decision, as did Tony Soprano."
