Supernatural Producer Peers Ahead: What's on Tap in 2010?

It's been an exhaustive wait for Supernatural fans, but that show finally returns with a new episode on Thursday.

Heading into the second half of season five, producer Sera Gamble spoke to TV Guide Magazine about what viewers have to look forward to over the next few months...

On the February 4 episode, Back to the Future 2: Sam and Dean go back to try to save their mom and dad - from a threat that also travels back in time from 2020 - Terminator style. If the baddie succeeds, Mary and John (pictured)  will be murdered - and Sam and Dean will never be born.

On the Valentine's Day episode: Sam and Dean are investigating a series of gory murder/suicides; all people who were desperately in love. They suspect the culprit may be the supernatural being who made the matches to begin with - a Cupid gone rogue. So they capture and interrogate him.

On advancement of the Apocalypse storyline: The Horsemen are active in upcoming episodes. You'll meet Famine, and find out some of what Death has been doing since Luciferraised him. Other upcoming episodes will also touch on events and creatures from the Book of Revelation.

On other spoilers: The search for God will soon yield a solid lead. The Archangel Michael will be introduced. We will answer the question, “What does Castiel act like when he's drunk off his ass?” And the brothers will go to Heaven.

Yes, Gamble confirms, actual Heaven.

Lex Medlin Cast as Cupid on Supernatural

Supernatural has found its Cupid.

The February 11 episode of The CW hit will be titled “My Bloody Valentine" and will feature Lex Medlin (Southland, Men of a Certain Age) in the iconic chubby role.

On the installment, couples all over town start begin to engage in deadly, compulsive behavior. As a result, Sam and Dean look into the happenings, with the help of Castiel, and learn that a naked Cherub might be involved.

Naturally, as depicted below, the trio tracks him down for questioning:

Ahead on Supernatural: Bobby's Late Wife and More!

On January 4, Supernatural comes to TNT.

On January 21, it comes back to The CW, airing new episodes after close to two months off.

What can fans expect when the series returns? E! News has provided the following spoilers and storyline updates...

  • Sam and Dean will come across a town where everyone's late loved ones are alive... as friendly zombies.
  • This includes Bobby's dead wife.
  • Sam will use his powers again before season five concludes, much to Dean's chagrin.
  • Viewers will meet Famine, a horseman of the Apocalypse.
  • Prophet Chuck will make at least one more appearance.

Supernatural Star Previews The Song Remains the Same

The headline above refers to this season's 13th episode of the CW hit, titled "The Song Remains the Same." It will air on February 4 and McNiven - who plays recurring angel Anna on the series - previewed the major installment in an interview with AOL this week.

During the episode, she said...

  • Anna returns, blaming Sam for starting the Apocalypse;
  • She travels back in time, Termninator-style, to kill John and Mary Winchester and prevent Sam's birth from ever occurring;
  • Sam and Dean respond by also heading into the past, alongside Castiel.

Julie McNiven on Supernatural

"Everything Anna does is motivated by wanting to do the right thing, wanting to do what she feels is going to keep this apocalypse from happening," McNiven said. "I see Anna as always doing what she thinks is right and she's very strong about that and doesn't want to hear anything otherwise."

McNiven added that fans "wont be let down" by the episode.

But they will have to wait awhile for it: Supernatural is on an extended hiatus and won't return until January 21 with a new installment.

Supernatural Producer Previews Upcoming Storylines

Count Supernatural viewers among the few that hope this holiday season comes and goes with greater speed than Usain Bolt.

That's because The CW hit left fans with an emotional cliffhanger last week - two beloved characters died and Death was exhumed - but won't return until January 14.

Can we at least get an idea of what to expect when the series returns in 2010? Yes, says producer Sara Gamble. She shared a few spoilers with TV Guide Magazine...

On upcoming suffering: We are continuing to deal with the overarching storyline of the Apocalypse. The personal cost for our boys is real; they will suffer in every possible way. This season has been really funny but also very dark. The Supernatural palate has escalated due to the Apocalypse. We’re able to tell stories on a slightly larger scale.

Supernatural Showdown

On God: People are definitely looking for him. It’s an ongoing quest for Castiel. It’s vitally important for him and increasingly interesting for the boys. Historically Sam has more faith. The jury is out for Dean as to whether or not God currently exists.

On Lucifer: You’ll be seeing more of Lucifer. You’ll learn more about how his taking Sam over figures into his plans. And how he came to find Nick, who’s his current [host]. And you will definitely start to understand the Archangel Michael’s perspective. He’s trying to become embodied and Dean is the only possible vessel for him. He’s not walking around in the here and now, so we have to be creative in introducing Michael. You will meet him.

Can Christmas come early this year? We need Supernatural back on the air ASAP!
