The Good Wife Spoilers: Relationships and Rivalries to Confuse, Climax

As The Good Wife moves toward May Sweeps and its first season finale, a pair of relationships are on the minds of viewers:

Alicia and Will; and Alicia and Cary.

Regarding the former, fans are wondering if anything will ever happen between these two. (In this week's episode review, I asked if something already had). The only response producer Robert King would offer? Possibly.

“[Will and Alicia have] one of the most complicated relationships... because it really is a friendship that doesn’t want to lose its friendship by going to the next step. There’s an episode [coming up in April] that’s all about not knowing what a jury is thinking and it’s a metaphor for how Alicia and Will can’t get into each other’s heads."

Meanwhile, speaking to Michael Ausiello, King also said the rivalry between Alicia and Cary will explode in May.

The goal of the season, according to King, was to feature a pair of climaxes: The first was "Hi," the episode where Peter gets out. The second] will play into [the rivalry].”

Assuming Alicia wins out - the show is titled The Good Wife, after all, not The Good Young, Male Lawyer - we just hope that doesn't mark the end of Cary on the show. We really like Matt Czuchry in that role.

The Good Wife: What's Ahead?

Warning: The following interviews with The Good Wife cast and crew members reveal a few spoilers about next week's episode and beyond.

With that out of the way, we can confirm the following: Peter will turn down the offer made to him by Childs at the conclusion of "Bad." He'll take the offensive and request a retrial hearing.

If successful, of course, this means he'd return home and live with Alicia and the kids. As Julianna Margulies tells TV Guide Magazine:

"Alicia has made the decision to let Peter come home - but she knows that the only way that she won’t crack is if she takes it a day at a time.”

Defense Team

But how likely is that scenario? The outcome of Peter's case will hinge on the testimony of Kalinda, who’s been working as a double agent for both the former and current district attorneys.

“Kalinda has something to say that could keep Peter in jail. She’s very Machiavellian, but she has an Achilles heel,” said producer Robert King, who also responded to a question about Will and Alicia's future:

“Look for a love triangle percolating beneath the surface."

Are you a fan of The Good Wife? It's worth a DVR recording, at least, as this new drama is one of the smartest shows on TV.

The Good Wife Episode Stills from "Painkillers"

The Good Wife returns with a new episode on January 12.

What will go down on the episode titled "Painkillers?" Here's a quick look ahead:

  • Alicia represents the doctor of a high school quarterback that dies from a painkiller overdose;
  • Jackie ends up in the hospital;
  • Peter receives news that makes him quite angry.

As usual, we'll recap and review the episode after it airs. For now, get an early look at a few scenes from it, courtesy of the photos below:

The Good Wife: Casting for Kalinda's Lover

On The Good Wife, the character of Kalinda has only been featured in spurts.

Perhaps this is because she doesn't have a famous husband in jail for using state funds to sleep with prostitutes.

Kalinda will soon have a new man in her life, however, as producers are casting for an easily-angered police detective that gets involved with the firm's investigator.

The recurring character will be named Ryan. Not much is known about him at the moment, except for this: he ends up owing Kalinda a favor; and sleeping with her.

Novembers Sweeps Preview: The Good Wife

The Good Wife took a break from airing new episodes this week.

But the CBS hit returns next Tuesday with an episode titled "Conjugal," though the title doesn't imply what you think: Alicia agrees to alone time with Peter in order to get information about a new client.

What else can fans expect from the highly-rated new drama as it heads into November Sweeps?

Producer Robert King previewed a couple upcoming storylines in an interview with TV Guide Magazine. For example, he said:

“Alicia is put on the stand to speak up for her husband at a hearing that could get him sent home with electronic monitoring. It’s a way for the new state’s attorney to embarrass her.”

Moreover, King said, the Florrick children are providing Alicia with a new, awkward source of angst and anger:

“[She] starts to worry that their dad’s scandal is pushing her kids to have sex earlier than they should."
