Alaric Saltzman Speaks: Matt Davis on Vampire Diaries Role

Is he a vampire? A vampire slayer? A human sporting the ring of his late, blood-sucking wife?

The jury is still out on Alaric Saltzman, who debuted this week on The Vampire Diaries.

While fans debate this character in our forum, TV Guide caught up with Matt Davis and probed him for hints, scoops and spoilers. Here's what the actor offered...

Is Alaric a good guy or bad guy? It's not so clearly defined. He has a dark side, and I think he's not always going to do the right thing. How that compels him remains to be seen.

Alaric Saltzman Debut

How will Alaric impact Jeremy? I think that Alaric sees him as the troubled teen that he is. Because of Alaric's own history and background, he reaches out and gives Jeremy the opportunity to redeem himself. Alaric clears the decks, in an academic sense, and provides a stable, understanding presence in his life. Jeremy begins to respect Alaric.

How long will he stick around? Right now, I don't really know. The joke on the set is that getting called down to the effects department to be fitted for a body mold is the kiss of death. They have to fit you for prosthetics so you can be staked in the heart or something.

Davis added that Saltzman doesn't know Stefan and Damon are vampires, which removes the possibility he arrived in Mystic Falls to take them down. Why is he here in that case?

Send us your theories today!

Lexi Speaks: Arielle Kebbel on Vampire Diaries Character

A fun and bubbly vampire?!?

While Edward Cullen and the Salvatore siblings may cringe at this concept, Arielle Kebbel is embracing her role as Lexi on The Vampire Diaries.

The actress debuts as Stefan's (very) old friend on tonight's episode of The CW hit and she previewed her character's appearance in an interview with TV Guide. Excerpts are below:

On Lexi: She is about as much fun as anyone who's 300-and-something years old. She's this burst of energy, a complete life force. It's safe to say she's pretty much been everywhere, seen everything, lived every moment and that makes her even stronger, even more confident, even more sarcastic because she has all of this life experience behind her.

Very Old Friends

On Lexi's relationship with Damon and Stefan: I'm older than both the boys, and although I have unconditional love for Stefan, there's also an unspoken understanding that I'm older, which means I'm more powerful. That comes as a huge threat to Damon, which I love.

On her evil side: Let me tell you something, the hours I spent getting red contacts and getting fangs made were all worth it. I got to do some pretty cool and pretty evil stuff in this episode. It's not every day you get to toss around cops.

There are no current plans for Kebbel to appear again on the show, but she says producers are open to Lexi's return of fans clamor for it.

Following the episode (or right now!), sound off about the character in our Vampire Diaries forum. We'll meet you there!

Major Deaths Ahead on The Vampire Diaries

Were you surprised by Vicki's death on last week's episode of The Vampire Diaries?

If so, producer Kevin Williamson has a message for fans: there's more where that came from!

In an interview with MTV this week, Williamson said he wants to keep viewers on the constant edges of their seats.

"I don't want to be that show where there's no jeopardy. [Some shows] are all very predictable in the sense that, well, 'We know this is the lead character so we know he won't die.' Or, 'That's a regular, so he won't die, it'll be a supporting person."

Damon and Elena

Might Damon or Elena actually die? Sound off on these characters in our Vampire Diaries forum!

While Kayla Ewell was featured prominently on the show's first six episodes, Williamson intended to kill her character off all along.

Poor Vicki was a sacrificial lamb, one needed to prove to fans that no one is safe in Mystic Falls.

"I want the show to have an unpredictable quality to it, and I think that's going to come now and the audience will realize I will kill them — we will kill the main characters," Williamson said. "This is a show that will go there."

Hopefully, it will do a better job of going there than Heroes has. That show can't even get a major death right.

Kevin Williamson: Why The Vampire Diaries Killed Off Vicki

Kevin Williamson makes one thing clear in a new interview with TV Guide:

No one is safe on The Vampire Diaries.

Those are the producer's exact words, when asked why the show killed off Vicki on this week's shocking episode.

RIP, Vicki

Below, Williamson expounds on the surprise death, while warning fans not to get too comfortable with any other characters. Anyone might be next...

Why did he kill Vicki?
We've reached the point when we're watching TV that there's no jeopardy, no risk, no stakes, when we know our lead characters aren't going to be killed. Well, that's not true on this show. I'm starting with the supporting characters and I'm working my way in. Everyone's going to die on this show. This is a show where characters you love may die, and it'll be unexpected and shocking, so get ready for it. It's as simple as that. And [Vicki] was the first casualty.

Might she return?
No. She could come back in a flashback or a dream. But no, she's done. I mean, she goes. She's dead. Dead is dead. I guess there's always a way, but I don't think so.

Who else will be affected?
It's really sad because this is about Jeremy. We're dealing with two people who have lost their parents. You can only imagine what it's going to do to him. It's pretty powerful, good stuff.

It's time to chime in, fans, both in our Vampire Diaries forum and below: Were you sad to see Vicki go?

Yes, she was great!
No, good riddance!

Kayla Ewell Previews "One of the Most Shocking Moments of Television"

As viewers of The Vampire Diaries already know, Mystic Falls is an unusual town; one filled with creatures that often go bump - and bite - in the night.

Therefore, we can't even imagine what the town must be like on Halloween. Fortunately, we won't have to: tonight's new episode is focused on All Hallows' Eve.

What can fans expect on "Haunted?" A scene that made Katerina Graham (Bonnie) cry, according to Kayla Ewell (Vicki), who told TV Guide:

"It's going to be one of the most shocking moments of television and you don't want to miss it."

Forbidden Love

We won't, don't worry. Here are a few more excerpts from Ewell's interview with the publication:

On Vicki's transformation: "It was really fun to find out that I was becoming a vampire because I was the first to make the transition. The second thought I had was, "Oh crap, I have to do this now." I talked to some of our producers, and asked what some good movies to watch are.

"One I watched was Interview with the Vampire, to actually study how they bite people and suck their blood. You have to grow the fangs, so your gums are aching. You have to go through all the things that you're feeling physically because you're completely changing. I've never played anything animalistic before, so this has been such a fun stretch for me."

On what sort of vampire Vicki makes: "My take is that she's a bad vampire. Whoever you are as a person is [magnified] by 1,000 when you turn into a vampire. I'm a mini-Damon, only a female version."

On Matt Davis as Alaric: I'm such a fan. His character, Alaric, comes in as the new teacher because the teacher died. Damon killed the first teacher that everyone hated. [Davis] comes in as the super-hot teacher that all the kids are obsessed with. He starts to date Jenna. No one realizes that he is a vampire slayer.

Katerina Graham On The Vampire Diaries: More Deaths and More Sex to Come!

As Bonnie on The Vampire Diaries, Katerina Graham is slowly coming out of the shadow of her fellow stars.

While the show focuses heavily on Damon, Stefan and Elena, something is clearly going on with Bonnie and her family. We'll find out more soon, as Graham spoke to TV Guide this week about what's to come on The CW hit...

On comparisons to other vampire-based shows/movies: I just think it's different vibes. True Blood has such a Southern vibe and Twilight [is more of] a human, vampire and werewolf thing. There also isn't a witch. The first episode we thought was very similar to Twilight, but the second episode, it completely forks and turns. I'm so grateful to those shows because they're part of the reason that our show got picked up. They opened the door.

On Bonnie as a witch: She's a good witch. She would never hurt anyone. She's blowing things up and causing fires and certain things are happening because she doesn't have control over it. I don't think she's doing it to necessarily hurt anyone.

She's still Bonnie Bennett; she's still Elena Gilbert's best friend and the sweet girl who grew up in Mystic Falls, Virginia. But she's really doing some things that can hurt people. Just the thought of that terrifies her. Wait until you see the next episode; it evolves so much past anything you can imagine.

Katerina Graham as Bonnie

On future deaths: In our first meeting with the director and writers in Atlanta, we were sat down and we were told bluntly that this isn't The Elena Diaries, this isn't The Stefan Diaries and this isn't The Bonnie Diaries, this is The Vampire Diaries, and anyone can die and anything can happen.

Every episode somebody dies. Yeah, there are going to be a lot more deaths, a lot more sex, a lot more magic, and fire and power.

Vampire Diaries returns next week with an episode titled "Haunted." It looks great.

Producer Previews Next Episode of The Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries may be taking a week off this Thursday, but it's simply gearing up for another exciting episode on October 29.

The installment "Haunted" will celebrate Halloween in Mystic Falls, but producer Julie Plec told Entertainment Weekly a heavy focus of the hour will be Vicki's transformation into a vampire.

“Elena and Stefan’s whole goal is to make sure that nobody else knows what’s happened to her," Plec said.

Vicki the Vampire

As for the plot of the episode itself, Plec preview it as follows:

“The school does an awesome haunted house Halloween party, where the parking lot is decorated and the whole interior hallway of the school is this cool, creepy haunted house. And all the action of the episode culminates there when you’ve got people in vampire costumes running around.

You’ve got monsters and demons and, as everything with Vicki comes to a head, as she fights off her urges to feed, we’re in this haunted house and we’re at this Halloween party, and the s— hits the fan, as they say.”

Zach Roerig Dishes on Vampire Diaries Character

Zach Roerig hasn't received nearly as much attention for his role on The Vampire Diaries as co-stars such as Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder.

But the actor plays a critical role on The CW hit, portraying Elena's ex-boyfriend Matt.

In a new interview, Roerig spoke to Fancast about his character's past, present and possible future. A few excerpts...

On Matt's attraction to Elena: I think it’s just one of those cases where he doesn’t know any different. Elena’s the only girlfriend he’s ever had. She’s his childhood best friend who was the first for everything.

Matt and Tyler

On Matt and Stefan: Matt doesn’t like Stefan right at the get-go because he’s going after his girl. As time goes on the natural good guy in Matt kicks in where he has to admit he’s a pretty nice guy. I can’t really hate him.

On hopes for Matt: I think that every family [in Mystic Falls] is going to have some kind of secret. I think it would be cool if Matt killed a vampire. I think once Matt realizes that there are vampires he will definitely be involved in the killing of vampires.

Sadly, there's no new Vampire Diaries episode this week. But next Thursday night looks to be a doozy!

Vampire Diaries Producer: Fans Ain't Seen Nothing Yet!

We're just a few hours away from a major Vampire Diaries episode, and we were gonna let fans sit back and wait for "Lost Girls."

But producer Kevin Williamson is so excited about the hour, we wanted to alert fans to his thoughts on it.

In an interview with TV Guide Magazine, Williamson said he was pleased viewers liked his show so far, but: “You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.”

“Wait until you see this one! It’s like the second half of the [last week’s] episode,” he said of tonight's episode. “Elena has to know. The story doesn’t start until she does... now the story starts.”

Ready for a Story?

What can he tell us about this evening's installment? Only good thing.

“You are gonna fall in love with her this week. Stefan took Damon’s ring so he has to stay in the house during the day. He’s bored, so he takes Vicki with him... they party like rocks stars all day long, they just get drunk and party at the mansion.”

Paul Wesley Answers Your Questions

In a new interview, Paul Wesley sinks his teeth into a number of questions submitted by fans of The Vampire Diaries.

How does he approach the role of Stefan Salvatore? Where is the series going? Could he take Ian Somerhalder in a fight?

Watch the video below and also watch The Vampire Diaries: it's incredibly entertaining.
