Eric Braeden Confirms Return to The Young and the Restless

Less than two weeks ago, Eric Braeden spoke on his exit from The Young and the Restless, as the veteran actor and the daytime drama couldn't agree on new contract terms.

But a lot can happen in a few days and Braeden finally agreed to a new deal last week. He talked about the experience with Entertainment Tonight:

On his agreement with the show: Let us just say that we arrived at a mutually beneficial arrangement. Obviously, I was very touched by the fans' reaction and support. I must say in all humbleness, it touched me. I had no idea. I am inclined to be a cynic about some things, and I did not expect this type of outpouring.

On his emotions when he thought he was out: As you know, in any kind of divorce or loss like that, you go through so many emotions, you can't think straight for awhile. It is kind of a grieving process. It is all kinds of emotions rolled into one.

On what fans can expect from Victor: To come back and take revenge!

More from Eric Braeden, Says Soap Opera Exit was "Rushed"

Fans of The Young and the Restless still can't believe it:

Eric Braeden is out as Victor Newman.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the veteran actor says failed contract negotiations resulted in a "rushed" storyline that gave Victor the boot from the show. He said:

"It was obviously meant to intimidate. It was obviously done with enormous forethought to coincide with the end of the 26-week cycle. Essentially that is what the business is doing now and has been doing for a while. And quite frankly, it’s outrageous. When I sign a three-year deal, I’m obligated to fulfill that deal.

The producers, however, can come to me after a half-year and say, “We’ve changed our minds.” Where in the world of business does this kind of contract exist? Do I blame the people for wanting to squeeze as much out of us as they can? I do not. The question is, when do you squeeze too much?"

Braeden added that he doubted he's join another soap opera, but "never say never in this business."

Can you imagine him as anyone but Victor on The Young and the Restless?

Eric Braeden Speaks on Exit from The Young and the Restless

Has Genoa City really seen the last of Eric Braeden?

That's hard to imagine for viewers of The Young and the Restless. But the veteran actor got his walking papers late last month, and talks about what went down in a new interview with TV Guide Magazine.

On whether he's really gone: It is not a fait accompli but I am seriously thinking about various other career options. As you know, I came to Y&R from film, from nighttime television, from theatre. It’s not that one isn’t willing to acquiesce to [a lesser salary], but it is the way in which I was approached.

I was dealt with in a cold, deeply insulting and unconscionable manner and I’m a defiant bastard. I feel a great loyalty to the character and to the show, but that loyalty is not reciprocated. The daytime business has become cutthroat.

On his rumored pay cut: It’s like being hit with a sledgehammer. What is sad is that they are playing with - and easily disregarding - the contributions made by a lot of the actors who have been on the show for a very long time, and it seemingly makes no difference to them. As a result, there is an enormous feeling of emotional upheaval on the set. And that was the intention, of course.

It’s all about intimidation. It’s all about leaking things to the internet before I even knew I was going to [be asked to] renegotiate. I had no idea! There are obviously leaks coming from the inside, all there to bludgeon you, to intimidate you.
