Charmed Trailer: Can the Power of Three Make This Reboot Thrive?

at .

Charmed is officially being rebooted by The CW.

The young-skewing network officially placed an order for the series last week, and now we have the first trailer.

The official logline reads:

After the tragic death of their mother, three sisters in a college town are stunned to discover they are witches.

Soon this powerful threesome must stand together to fight the everyday and supernatural battles that all modern witches must face: from vanquishing powerful demons to toppling the patriarchy.

This reboot stars Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz, Sarah Jeffery, Rupert Evans, Ser'Darius Blain, Ellen Tamaki and Charlie Gillespie.

At first glance, the similarities to the original series are uncanny, and the Book of Shadows looks pretty snazzy.

However, I didn't really dig Rupert Evans as the Whitelighter. I mean, he's a great actor, but the first glimpse of him in the role was not that great.

The original Charmed aired from 1998-2006 on The WB and starred Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano, Shannen Doherty and later, Rose McGowan.

The original series was great, so this new version has a lot to live up to, and it's difficult to imagine a lot of fans of the original tuning in without any link to the Halliwell sisters.

The series will help launch The CW's Sunday night line-up, and it's probably the best show to do so.
