The X-Files: Mitch Pileggi on Skinner's Backstory & Today's Climate

at .  Updated at .

Although he's active on social media, Mitch Pileggi doesn't let what he reads there affect how he portrays his characters, especially Skinner, who he has played so long he feels he knows very well.

While Skinner will be getting some much-needed backstory during The X-Files Season 11, Pileggi had previously filled in for himself some of what he imagined might have come before during Skinner's life.

Skinner's initial introduction on The X-Files was to be as a roadblock for the Cigarette Smoking Man, but his strong moral company changed his trajectory.

During Season 11, Pileggi believes Skinner as the champion for Mulder and Scully will continue.

Pileggi believes the current political climate is rich for The X-Files because "The truth ain't out there, man. Everybody lies."

He can't be more right in that assessment, but it doesn't make it any easier to hear, does it?

When asked what episodes have always stuck with him, "Home" easily comes to his mind, and he shares the woman who played Mother during that hour has an updated role on Season 11 playing multiple parts.

What else does he have to say? Take a look at the entire interview below.

You can watch The X-Files online to see what's been going on in the recent past. Why not give it a go?

The X-Files returns on Fox Wednesday, January 3 at 8/7c.

The X-Files Quotes

Mulder: Air's gettin' a little hot in here.
O'Malley: Oh. Those don't roll down. I had the vehicle bulletproofed.
Mulder: Because you never know when a gun-toting liberal might go Hinkley.

Scully: I'm always happy to see you.
Mulder: And I'm always happy to find a reason.
