In a new interview with TV Guide Canada, Sharon Case responds to a question about her character on The Young and the Restless.

Was she surprised when Sharon became unhinged and unstable?

Here's what the actress said in response:

It all makes sense and I welcomed the challenge. No matter how [head writer] Maria Arena Bell writes the storyline, it’s all up to me to decide how functional Sharon appears to people. I get into a lot of debates with our directors on how to play the story. I do believe people who are experiencing a meltdown of sorts appear to be fully functional to other people, and that’s how I’ve been playing the story. It’s not one-dimensional.
